Christopher McQuarrie and Oscar-winning Michael B. Jordan are collaborating on an upcoming adaptation of Electronic Arts’ popular video game franchise, Battlefield, per The Hollywood Reporter. McQuarrie and Jordan are part of a new package for the project, which would have McQuarrie write, direct, and produce the feature, with Jordan set to produce and possibly star in the film, depending on multiple factors.

The new package is reportedly being pitched to studios, which are set to rally their interest in the project. THR notes that McQuarrie and several others are pitching studios and streamers, including Apple and Sony Pictures, on Thursday (Apr. 23), with more meetings set for Friday (Apr. 24).

Those involved are said to be prioritizing a theatrical release for the adaptation, so it’s currently unknown if Netflix is on the meetings list. THR also notes that, besides the talent, there will be a high cost attached to securing the media rights to Battlefield as well.

Battlefield made its debut in 2002 with the Battlefield 1942 game. It’s since expanded over the last two decades, incorporating contemporary and futuristic warfare.

Battlefield 6, the latest game in the series, debuted last year and is set two years into the future. It’s reportedly one of the most expensive video games of all time. It also reportedly sold over seven million copies in its first three days of release.

Will Battlefield Make It To the Big Screen Along With Call of Duty?

Interestingly enough, McQuarrie and Jordan are readying a Battlefield movie, while a film adaptation of another popular first-person warfare shooter, Activision’s Call of Duty, is currently in the works from Paramount Pictures. Peter Berg will direct a script by Taylor Sheridan, and it’s due out in theaters on June 30, 2028.

THR reports that it’s unknown if McQuarrie and his collaborators plan to meet with Paramount to pitch them on Battlefield, as the studio is already producing the Call of Duty feature.

McQuarrie is also currently attached to direct a King Conan movie at 20th Century Studios, with Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to take up his Atlantean sword once again. It’s unknown when either movie will be released.

Michael B. Jordan similarly has a full plate at the moment. His new theatrical reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair, which also stars Adria Arjona and Kenneth Branagh, arrives in theaters from Amazon MGM Studios on March 7, 2027.

Jordan has also signed on to star in a new theatrical reboot of the popular TV series, Miami Vice, opposite Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, with Jordan Butler portraying the famous roles of Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett. Top Gun Maverick and F1 director Joseph Kosinski is helming the feature, which goes in front of cameras later this year.

So, even if a studio lands a deal for Battlefield, it could still be a while before it’s greenlit and gets the fast track to production.
