Michael Fassbender To Star in Kung Fury Feature-Length Sequel

Michael Fassbender is set to star in a feature-length sequel to the viral short Kung Fury. David Sandberg and KatzSmith Productions announced on Monday that Fassbender will star in the film, also titled Kung Fury, alongside Sandberg (who also directs) and David Hasselhoff. Production kicks off this summer. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt will produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner with Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughan.

Kung Fury become a viral phenomenon after being released following a $200,000 Kickstarter campaign that actually earned the film $630,000 in funding. The full short is below.

The synopsis for the film is as follows: “It’s 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. Kung Fury’s Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel space and time itself to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.”
