Netflix’s Spencer Confidential Tops Streaming Viewing As Total Streaming Up 50% Year-to-Year
It’s a good time to be on a streaming platform thanks to most of the country being stuck at home, and Spencer Confidential was among those to benefit. Nielsen reports (per Deadline) that total streaming was up big for the week of March 16th with 156 billion total minutes. That’s a rise of 36% from 115 billion minutes for the week of February 24th and a 50% increase from March 16th, 2019. The week’s streaming accounted for 23% of all viewing being done on TV compared to 14% a year ago.
The most watched content for the week was Netflix’s Spencer Confidential, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Winston Duke. The neo-noir action-comedy lead the way, with Netflix’s The Office (soon to head to NBCUniversal’s Peacock) coming in at #2.
Netflix had the highest share of total streaming at 29% followed by YouTube (20%), Hulu (10%) and Amazon (9%). Disney+ and CBS All Access are currently counted in the “other” category of streamers, which in whole accounted for 31% of total streaming. “Other” is up big from 23% a year ago; meanwhile, while Netflix is on top, it lost share from last year’s 36% thanks to the increased competition.
