New Grinch Movie Will Be An Origin Story

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Illumination Entertainment’s new film The Grinch will be an origin story and not a straight remake of 1966’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The film will arrive on November 9. Details were announced by Chris Meledandri during Universal’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas yesterday.

He said: “This original story is filled with imaginative imagery and has tremendous heart.”

The Grinch will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. A new trailer was shown at the event that reveals Grinch and his dog Max in Whoville.

He also gave an update on The Secret Life of Pets 2, which arrives on June 7, 2019. It will feature Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish and Harrison Ford. Sing 2 arrives on December 25, 2020 and two other Illumination projects arrive in 2021.
