Sony Pictures has released the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it looks like Peter Parker, aka the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, is in for the fight of his life.

In the new movie, Peter now faces a world where everyone has forgotten who he is. However, he’s now facing a problem where he appears to be undergoing a metamorphosis, and his DNA is “mutating.” The new change means Peter is losing control over his powers.

Also, Peter contends with a “shocking new threat to the city and those whom he loves.” This comes in the form of a powerful new villain no one can even see. In a world that’s forgotten Peter Parker, he hasn’t forgotten them.

The new trailer finally reveals Tramell Tillman’s role, as he’s portraying a character named Metzger. This is likely in reference to the Marvel Comics character, William Metzger, an anti-mutant activist and militia leader in the comics.

Metzger states that Spider-Man appears to be “immune” to the invisible new threat in the city. Considering that Sadie Sink is heavily rumored to be portraying a character familiar to Marvel readers, that implies that Peter is immune to someone’s powers due to his own mutating DNA. It would also suggest that the narrative is setting up Sink’s character as a bait-and-switch villain, who is simply trying to evade incarceration from the true villains, such as Metzger and the Department of Damage Control (DDOC).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Hits Theaters Later This Summer

The upcoming sequel stars Jon Bernthal, reprising his MCU role of The Punisher/Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo, who is back as the MCU’s Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tillman, Sink, and Michael Mando, who returns as Mac Gargan from Homecoming, finally becoming the supervillain The Scorpion.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It arrives in theaters on July 31.
