Candyman finally arrives in theaters next weekend, and a new featurette sees Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele discussing the film. You can see the video below from Universal Pictures in which the director and producer talk about the film’s urban legend and telling stories through a Black perspective.

Candyman arrives on August 27th after several pandemic delays and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Vanessa Estelle Williams, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Rebecca Spence, and Tony Todd. Directed by DaCosta, it is described as follows:

For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror,” reads the official synopsis. “In the present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy and his partner, gallery director Brianna Cartwright, move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials.
