Pixar’s Onward found itself released at the worst moment for its box office success thanks to COVID-19, and Disney is now looking to get it to fans early. The studio announced on Friday that the film, which released on February 28th just as films started to see their grosses impacted by concerns about the coronavirus, will be released on Digital HD tonight and hits Disney+ on April 3rd.

The digital HD rental price will be the same as Universal’s rental prices for The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma. at $19.99. The film is now available for rent.

Directors Dan Scanlon and Kori Rae said in the announcement, “While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes.”

Onward looks at a world where fantasy and magic exist, but modern advances have made it much like ours. Two teenage elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot, go on an journey to discover if there is still a little magic left out there in order to spend one last day with their father, who died when they were too young to remember him. It grossed $61.5 million domestically and $103 million worldwide before theatrical shutdowns killed its chances to make a profit in cinemas.
