Open Casting Call Underway For Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story Remake
Coming Soon reports that 20th Century Fox is holding an open casting call in New York City for the remake of West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg. Tony Kushner wrote the latest adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical, which was written by Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim (music by Leonard Bernstein). Casting directors are looking for actors to play Maria, Anita, Bernardo, Tony and Riff. Maria and Anita are Latina, Bernardo is Latino, and Tony and Riff are Caucasian. The people auditioning have to be between the ages of 15-25, able to sing and have a dance background.

Here are the details: Sign-in begins at 9:00 a.m. Please prepare a short cut (16 bars) of a classic musical theatre song and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Please also bring a recent photo and resume with contact information stapled back-to-back to leave behind. The film was previously adapted as a film in 1961 by Robert Wise. It won ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It is inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. It follows two star-crossed lovers named Tony and Maria, played by Richard Beymer and Natalie Wood.
