Overlord Director To Helm Flash Gordon

Deadline reports that Overlord director Julius Avery is set to write and direct a new Flash Gordon movie for 20th Century Fox. Matthew Vaughn, who was originally set to direct, will produce with John Davis, Hearst’s CJ Kettler and Fox senior vice president Matt Reilly.

The film would be based on the pulp comic strip from the 1930s, which has been adapted in serials, cartoons and a 1980 film starring Sam Jones. It follows the titular hero as he goes to the planet Mongo to fight Ming the Merciless.
