The video game The House Of the Dead is getting another chance on the big screen courtesy of Paul W.S Anderson. Deadline reports that Anderson will write and direct a new adaptation of the SEGA video game. Anderson will produce alongside partner Jeremy Bolt, Sega’s Toru Nakahara, Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Dan Jevons.

The House Of the Dead first released in 1997 and helped revive zombies in video games. A light gun shooter, the game centers on government agents who fight an army of undead monsters created by mad scientist Dr. Curien. It spawned several sequels and received a remake in 2022 for consoles.

The franchise previously made its way to the big screen in a critically-reviled version directed by Uwe Boll, which launched the much-hated director’s video game phase of his movie-making. It was not financially successful in theaters, grossing $13.8 million worldwide against a $12 million budget.
