Saw Sequel Writers Hired For Final Destination Reboot
It looks like Tony Todd was wrong. Just a week after the actor said he doesn’t think there will be a sixth film in the Final Destination series, a reboot is now in development. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who wrote Saw IV through The Final Chapter (as well as The Collector and the Feast trilogy) have been hired to author a reboot of the hit horror series.
As for plot, the films usually follow a group of tragedy survivors, who begin to die one by one in extremely complicated ways for circumventing Death’s plan for them. The series has starred Todd along with names like Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Seann William Scott, AJ Cook, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Courtney B. Vance, David Koechner and others. It ran from 2000 to 2011 over the course of five films, earning nearly $700 million at the box office. The last entry to date, Final Destination 5, was released in 3D.
The series also gave us one of the greatest scenes of mass carnage in horror history, from Final Destination 2:
