Soul Dominated Streaming Chart With Disney+ Premiere
Pixar’s Soul had a massive streaming start when it arrived on Disney+ on Christmas day. Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming rankings for the week of December 21st through the 27th have been released (per Deadline), which revealed that the animated film topped the juggernaut that is The Office. Soul ranked up 1.669 billion minutes of streaming for the week compared to the Steve Carell-led series’ 1.435 billion minutes in its more or less final days on Netflix.
Disney ended up scoring two spots in the top ten for the week, with the second season finale of The Mandalorian scoring 1 billion viewing minutes. Netflix otherwise dominated the chart as it usually does, scoring eight spots led by The Office but also featuring Bridgerton )eight episodes, 1.2 billion viewers) and the new George Clooney film The Midnight Sky (1.1 billion minutes).
Of note, the Nielsen weekly streaming chart includes only Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and Disney+ at this time, so there’s no Wonder Woman 1984 ranked. HBO Max and Peacock will be added in the coming months. WarnerMedia has been effusive in their praise of the WW84’s performance but no hard numbers have yet been revealed; we’ll likely know more when AT&T provides updated subscriber data next week as part of its quarterly earnings report.
