Supernatural To Finish Series Despite Early Shutdown Over COVID-19 Precautions
While the final episodes of Supernatural won’t be airing right away due to production shutting down over the coronavirus pandemic, The CW still intends to finish out the series. As previously reported, the veteran CW series is in an awkward place due to the fact that the necessary shutdown of the show due to concerns around the coronavirus left it with about an episode and a half to two still to film. Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb posted to Twitter on Monday night to confirm that the most recent episode is the final one scheduled to air currently due to the shutdown, but promised that the remaining planned episodes will air when they get a chance to finish them.
Dabb confirmed that filming has been completed on 18 episodes, five more than have aired, but noted that the five filmed episodes were not able to get the post-production work done. There are a total of seven episodes left to complete, and Dabb confirmed that “yes, we, the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series. It’s not a matter of ‘if,’ it’s a matter of ‘when.'”
There is no word when the remaining episodes may end up being completed or airing, due obviously to the current pandemic situation.
(Clarification: We have filmed through episode 18, however our visual effects and sound departments have closed because of the outbreak. So, right now, the episodes can't be finished. However, have some special treats coming along the way– to help us all get through this.)
