Sylvester Stallone Says The Expendables Spinoff Begins Filming in October
Sylvester Stallone is officially returning to the world of The Expendables, with a spinoff beginning production this fall. Stallone took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal that the spinoff, which has the working title of Christmas Story, begins filming in October. He wrote in a caption:
“This tattoo had to hurt! Off to shoot the spinoff of EXPENDABLES ( Temp. working title is , Christmas Story ) in OCT.”
No details are available on the spinoff’s plot, but the Christmas Story working title has led people to speculate that it will focus on or feature Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas. Statham played the character in all three films thus far.
The Expendables franchise ended on a down note financially, but have been very successful for Lionsgate as a whole. The first three films have starred every action star from Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Jason Statham, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Wesley Snipes, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and even Mel Gibson. While the first two were big hits at $274.5 million and $305.4 million worldwide, the third disappointed at $214.6 million.
