The Accountant Sequel Moving Forward, Ben Affleck To Return
Ben Affleck had a surprise hit with the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, and a sequel is officially moving ahead. Deadline reports that Amazon MGM Studios are teaming with Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity for a follow-up film to the Gavin O’Connor-directed movie and that Affleck, Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson have all signed on to reprise their roles in the new movie. O’Connor will be back to direct from a script by the first film’s Bill Dubuque.
The 2016 film starred Affleck as a man with the pseudonym of Christian Wolff, who is on the autism spectrum and works as a forensic accountant for a number of criminal and terrorist organizations and gets wrapped up in an embezzlement echeme that puts his life at risk. Bernthal played Christian’s brother Braxton, while Simmons played Director of the Treasury Department’s anti-terrorism group FinCEN. Addai-Robinson played a young Treasury agent who is tasked with finding The Accountant’s real identity.
According to Deadline, the sequel will see Addai-Robinson’s character forced to contact Christian after her ex-boss is killed by unknown assassins and she needs someone to solve the murders. Christian teams with Braxton to piece together the mysterio and draw the attention of ruthless killers trying to stop them.
The Accountant grossed $155.2 million worldwide on a $44 million budget.
