The first trailer for F9, the latest film in the Fast & Furious saga, is online and it reveals some major details about the film. You can check out the trailer below, which reveals the identity of John Cena’s character as Jakob, the brother of Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto and the main villain of the film along with some character posters.

As befits the franchise, Jakob is a multi-hyphonate: thief-master assassin-high performance driver, and he’s teamed up with Chalize Theron’s Cypher to take down Dom and his family. Of course, this leads into the usual over-the-top action and racing sequences that the franchise is known for — and a very, very surprising appearance at the end of the trailer from an old member of the crew.

The film stars Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren and Theron, and is directed by Justin Lin. It opens on May 22nd and the synopsis reads as follows:

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past.

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena).

The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
