The Rock Mends Fences With Vin Diesel, Teases Return to Main Fast & Furious Franchise
The feud between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel appears to be over, as Johnson praised his Fast & Furious co-star in a new Instagram post. Johnson posted to his account after Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw crossed the $750 million worldwide mark with a video in which he thanked the fans, Universal and his castmates and crew for “help[ing] build up an expansion of the Fast & Furious franchise.”
He went on to say that “Last, but not least, I want to thank brother Vin for your support of Hobbs & Shaw. I saw your post [congratulating Johnson on his wedding] and I appreciate it. Lauren and I appreciate the wedding congratulations, we send love right back to you and Paloma (Jimenez). It was a very classy post and I appreciate it, brother. You know what a wild ride this is and what a wild ride this has been. Ten years ago, when you and I spoke, and you invited me into the Fast & Furious family. I’m grateful for that invite and as you know, my goal was always, all these years, to come into the Fast & Furious world and help elevate the franchise in any way I possibly could. If I could do that, then I’ve done my job. And now here we are ten years later, this massively successful build-out and expansion. We did it the right way, we did it the smart way, and again brother I appreciate your support. And of course, all roads lead to one thing. I’ll be seeing you soon, Toretto.”
The mending comes after the two had well-publicized issues with each other making The Fate of the Furious. Johnson confirmed in April of 2018 that the two had issues to the point that they were filmed in such a way that they never had to be on screen together.
“Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” Johnson said at the time. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”
The ninth Fast & Furious film will not star Johnson, who starred with Jason Statham in Hobbs & Shaw. Whether he’ll appear in the tenth film is yet to be confirmed.
