According to a new report, Timothy Olyphant’s character in The Mandalorian season two will be rocking Boba Fett’s armor at some point. It was previously reported that Olyphant will play an as-yet-unrevealed role in the show’s upcoming season, which releases in October on Disney+. And /Film reports that their sources have confirmed that Olyphant filmed scenes in Fett’s famous Mandalorian armor.

The news is eyebrow-raising, as it was previously reported that Temuera Morrison is playing Boba Fett in the film. The site reports that Olyphant could be playing Cobb Vanth, a character introduced in Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars: Aftermath novels. Vanth is the self-appointed sheriff of Freetown on Tatooine and wears what is very strongly hinted to be Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor, being scavenged by Jawas from the wreckage of Jabba’s sail barge after Return of the Jedi. Fett, of course, ended up in the Sarlacc pit in that particular battle.

In the novels, Vance protects Freetown in the power vacuum left in the wake of Jabba’s death in Jedi. He is a former slave who keeps criminal elements away from Tatooine. If Olyphant is Vance, it’s conceivable that he could have been the character seen in the season one episode “The Gunslinger.” Fett may still be alive, which could create an interesting conflict for the second season.

Lucasfilm did not respond to /Film’s requests for comment on their story.
