Tom Welling Reprising Smallville Role For Arrowverse Crossover

Tom Welling is returning to the role that made him famous, Clark Kent, for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. Deadline has confirmed that Welling, who played the role on Smallville, will do it again for the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event. He’s one of three actors who will play the role, joining previous Supermen Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin.

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” said Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

At this point, noting specifically says that he will don a Superman outfit, something he infamously didn’t get the chance to do on Smallville. The five-episode crossover will cross through Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, and will also feature characters from Black Lightning. The event kicks off in December.
