It looks like James Cameron’s 1994 hit action comedy, True Lies, is due to receive a small-screen update in the form of a new TV series. Deadline reports that CBS has ordered a pilot for the planned show written by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. McG will serve as director for the pilot.

20th Century TV is reportedly producing the project, and James Cameron, who wrote and directed the 1994 film, is reportedly involved. Much like the movie, the show follows an unfulfilled suburban housewife who learns that her unremarkable husband is actually an international super spy, and she’s suddenly plunged into a world of danger and adventure. Together the husband and wife try to revitalize their passionless marriage.

Talks of a television reboot for True Lies were first reported back in 2017. The show had reportedly received a put pilot commitment from the FOX Network, but it seemingly never materialized. The show never moved out of the script stage after the script by Marc Guggenheim was sold to FOX.

Nix will serve as executive producer for the show under his Flying Glass of Milk Productions banner. McG and Mary Viola are attached via McG’s Wonderland Sound & Vision. Cameron and Rae Sanchini will be working on the show through Lightstorm Entertainment. Wonderland’s Corey Marsh and Flying Glass’ Josh Levy are attached as co-executive producers.

McG reportedly began pursuing True Lies as a TV show back in 2016. He maintained his efforts on the project despite the show falling through its pilot commitment at FOX.

The 1994 film was a loose remake of the 1991 French comedy, La Totale. It starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis the respective roles of Harry and Helen Tasker. The film would go on to gross $146 million domestic and $378.9 million worldwide.
