Vin Diesel Calls For The Rock To Return to Main Fast & Furious Franchise

Vin Diesel wants to bring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Lucas Hobbs back into the main Fast & Furious fold as it reaches its end. Diesel took to Instagram on Sunday to call Johnson to return to the main franchise with Fast 10, saying he hopes that the actor he’s been at odds with for the last few years “rise[s] to the occasion and fulfill[s] your destiny.”
The two had an famous falling out back in 2016 when Johnson posted social media back referring to some of his “male co-stars” in the franchise as unprofessional and “too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.” It was later revealed that he was referring to Diesel, who he butted heads with creatively on the set of Fate of the Furious.
The two actors seemed to have patched things up, though the situation was somewhat reignited this past summer when, while promoting F9: The Fast Saga, Diesel said the issues came because he was showing Johnson “tough love” in order to assist with the latter’s performance. Asked about Diesel’s comments, Johnson said:
“I laughed and I laughed hard. I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I’ll leave it at that. And that I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.”
Johnson brought his character of Lucas Hobbs to a spinoff franchise, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, in 2019 and a sequel is in the works. Diesel, however, seems to want Hobbs back for the final two films in the main franchise, writing:
“My little brother Dwayne… the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come.
Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.”
Diesel is reprising his role in the final two films, which Justin Lin will direct. Fast 10 to release on April 7th, 2023.
