Warner Bros. is set to bring the story of New Jack City back to the big screen in a new take on the film. Deadline reports that Malcolm M. Mays (Snowfall) is set to write a remake of the original 1991 film, which was directed by Mario Van Peebles and starred Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Chris Rock, Flavor Flav, Allen Payne, Judd Nelson and Peebles.
The new film does not have a director, and will be produced by Bill Gerber (A Star Is Born) along with original New Jack City producer Doug McHenry. The film starred SNipes as Nino Brown, a New York City drug lord in the 1980s, and Ice-T as Scotty Appleton, a detective who goes undercover in Nino’s gang to take him down. It was a financial hit with $48 million against an $8 million budget.
