Will Ferrell In Talks To Play John Madden For Biopic

Deadline reports that Will Ferrell is in talks to play John Madden in an upcoming biopic from director David O. Russell. The film will simply be called Madden and will be released through Amazon Studios & MGM in theaters. It’s based on the Black List script by Cambron Clark, with a Russell working on a rewrite prior to the WGA writer’s strike.

Madden, who passed away in 2021, was one of the NFL’s most famous head coaches and broadcast personalities. The film will follow a period in his life after he won the Super Bowl and the stress of the job took its toll. Specifically, it will focus on his friendship with Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and how Madden found new life in his second career.

The film will be produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jonathan Shukat, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.
