Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is returning to I Am Legend that would bring back the 2007’s film star Will Smith and also see Michael B. Jordan joining the cast, with both men serving as both stars and producers. Plot details on the sequel are currently being kept under wraps.

Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the 2007 film based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 book, is also attached to write and produce the sequel as well. No director is currently attached to the project. Francis Lawrence directed the original, which grossed $256 million at the US box office and $585 million worldwide.

Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing the film under their Outlier Society Banner. Smith and Westbrook Studios Co-President/Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone are also producing the picture, with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing the sequel for Westbrook Studios. James Lassiter will serve as EP. Goldsman and Greg Lessans will also produce via Weed Road Pictures.

This is not the first time a sequel to the hit movie has been kicked around before. Talks for a follow-up go as far back as 2012. One noticeable issue would likely be the ending to the first film.

In the 2007 I Am Legend film, Will Smith is the last human in a post-apocalyptic New York City following a vampiric zombie outbreak. Smith issued the following Instagram post after news on the sequel surfaced, writing, “This gonna be fire!!!!” in the caption.
