Zendaya Offered Lead Role In Disney’s The Little Mermaid

The Dis Insider reports that Walt Disney Studios is looking at people of color for roles in their live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, with Zendaya reportedly offered the role of Ariel. Keke Palmer is also said to be a person of interest for the film. Ariana Grande, who is wanted by fans, is not being considered at this time. It’s unknown if they will end up going with people of color for the roles or not.

The music will come from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will compose as well as provide new songs. Rob Marshall will direct from a script by Jane Goldman. Production will happen in Puerto Rico and Cape Town Africa, but no release date has been set yet.
