411’s Breaking Ground Report: 12/28/15
-Sorry for the lateness of this one as we are experiencing some crazy wind in SW PA that is causing power failures at various points.
-As a reminder your narrator for the series is William Shatner.
-We start this week at WWE Night of Champions where Bayley is backstage for the event. She meets up with Natalya and they discuss the new era of women’s wrestling in NXT. Bayley is now the lead girl in NXT with Sasha, Becky, and Charlotte gone. Natalya talks to Bayley about the upcoming Iron Woman match and jokes that she just wants a 15 minute match with her. Nice!
-NXT Takeover is discussed as they go over how they are live specials where the roster gets to show off on the WWE Network. At NXT Takeover: Respect the main event is the Iron Woman match for the Woman’s Title between Sasha and Bayley.
-Bayley gets to do some interviews to promote the NXT Takeover show, and she breaks down in tears as she talks about how one day they will main event WrestleMania.
-Tino up next as he is working in the weight room. He carries himself as a professional both inside and outside the ring. He sits down with Bloom and Adam Pearce to watch tape on what he is doing inside the ring. Tino says film study is very important as he can see what he is doing wrong and fix it. Bloom is not thrilled with the bump he took off the dropkick. He wants Tino to be organic and natural in the ring and Tino seems receptive to the advice they are giving him, which is good to see.
-Dana Brooke now as we ended last week with Asuka delivering a move that left her injured. Dana gets checked out by the trainer and she is worried about her spot on Takeover. She says she needs the moment to shine and there is no other option. She breaks down just thinking about not wrestling due to injuries.
-Nia Jax is at home as she is nearing her NXT debut. Her mom is there to help her with her entrance. She tells Nia not to over analyze things and do what comes naturally. Nia talks about how her mom has been supportive, but wasn’t sure if she would stick with wrestling. Lots of crying this week as Nia’s mom breaks down and we hear that Nia and her Aunt were in a car accident not long ago. Her mom then jokes about crying and it lightens the mood.
-Back at the Performance Center, Tyler Breeze finds a stray dog walking around outside. He can’t find an owner and doesn’t want to take to local shelter as after 48 hours they will euthanize. Tyler brings his girlfriend down to see the dog and they decide to keep him. Nice! I have a soft spot for stories like that because I have worked for a veterinarian for just over 18 years.
-Back to Nia as she talks to Rhino and Baron before NXT TV taping. She pitches them the ideas for her entrance and they tease her about not tripping on the ropes. Rhino tells a great story of how he didn’t know what his music sounded like so he just went out at the first sound he heard. It ended up being generic music that threw to commercial and thus he made his entrance while TV was at commercial which had the ref laughing at him.
-At the Performance Center some of the NXT stars get their head scanned by reps from Mattell for their very own action figure. Bayley already had one done previously and she gets presented with it in what has to be an exciting moment for anyone. She looks absolutely thrilled and she also gets shown the Sasha Banks action figure.
-Backstage before the TV taping Nia shows off her attire. Mojo meets up with her and he is a ball of energy as is the norm.
-Tino is at the PC and is working on the basics in the ring. He says he loves the lessons he is learning as he told HHH when he was brought in that he wasn’t here to be mediocre. He is fired up because he is not in the top tier and even refers to himself as “green.”
-Over to Full Sail for the NXT TV taping and Nia is nervous and excited for her debut. Her mom is in the crowd and she looks proud as you would expect. The crowd seems receptive to Nia and she wins her debut match in impressive fashion. The tears flow from her mom and from Nia as she talks about the debut. She meets up with her mom backstage and her mom says it felt scary to her for some reason, and that causes more tears to be shed. She assures her mom that she is ok and that everything will be fine.
-Sami Zayn is still waiting medical clearance to return to the ring. He knows it starts with gym work, and then conditioning. He is able to take bumps by himself in the ring for the first time in 4-5 months. He doesn’t feel any pain, but he can feel something. He does get to work one on one with another person in the ring, and Sami talks about that even if cleared after 6 months, he has been told it can take a year before back to normal self. Sami says this is his first surgery (which is pretty amazing actually), and he makes it through the drills, but isn’t cleared.
-Now Sami talks about how he isn’t sure if he will be WWE or NXT when he returns based on where he was when he got injured. He is worried about staying in NXT and being stagnant as his goal is to be with the main roster.
-We’ve finally arrived at NXT Takeover and Tyler Breeze is at home with his new dog. He arrives at the building and says he is ready to go. Takeover events are always a big deal for the NXT crew and we find out that Dana Brooke has been cleared and she is facing Asuka. She calls Asuka the best female wrestler and that she knows the kicks with be painful, but she has to pull through. She talks to Jason Jordan as this will also be his first ever Takeover appearance as well. Jordan is stressing as he isn’t sure if the track suits for him and Gable will arrive in time.
-Brooke starts to break down as he talks about her injury with Jordan. Man, all this crying! She says it hurts, but she doesn’t think it can get any worse.
-Right before the show Jordan and Gable find out that the special gear they ordered won’t be here tonight and they will have to wear the same gear they have been. Jordan seems bummed, but tells Gable it won’t take away from the match.
-Bayley talks about how she hasn’t had much sleep the last week, and that she is tired and wired at the same time. For her things will be more mental than physical. She has never had a match like this and she isn’t sure how to prepare.
-Countdown to the show is on and before getting to it the episode ends there.
-This week’s episode was a little better as it cut down on how many people they jammed into things, and mainly focused on some of the women in NXT. The preview for next week seems to tease HHH making an announcement to Tyler Breeze in front of the roster and I assume that is his call up to the main roster.
