411’s NXT Report 10.21.15

October 21, 2015 | Posted by Kevin Pantoja

Hello and welcome to another NXT report!

We open to a video recap of Apollo Crews winning the Number One Contender’s Battle Royal last week.

Asuka vs. Billie Kay

Asuka’s tron graphic of a mask looks really weird. Billie Kay seems to be playing a heel. She gets an insert promo about facing Asuka in the past and that she has the longest legs in NXT. Asuka offers a handshake but Billie kicks her and goes for a quick pin. “You killed Dana” chants. Billie clubs away on Asuka, talking trash while doing so. She then hits an impressive stalling vertical suplex that gets a round of applause for two. She goes to work on the arm until a snapmare is met with a kick from Asuka. Asuka kicks away at Billie, hitting one so hard that she stumbles back. Billie hits a forearm and Asuka just smiles and enjoys it. Billie comes off the ropes but is pulled into a cross armbreaker. Billie gets out but is hit with a German suplex and running kick. Asuka then goes to a cross face chicken wing. Billie fights it but taps once it it locked in officially.

Winner: Asuka in 3:26

This did the job. It got Billie Kay over as a heel and allowed her to showcase some stuff before Asuka turned it around and basically dominated like she should.

Tonight’s main event pits Baron Corbin against Rhyno. We are then taken to a vignette hyping Baron Corbin.

Tyler Breeze cuts a selfie promo on Samoa Joe. He says that Joe can’t just come into NXT and become number one contender while he’s around. He tells Joe to come and find him.

Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore w/ Caremlla vs. Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson

Dash and Dawson quickly play their tough guy stuff by going right after Enzo. Dawson uses a chop block and dragon screw. The team stick to what they’ve been saying, but isolating a body part, cutting the ring in half and using quick tags. That’s absolutely they they do here, focusing all of the offense on the left knee. Dawson has a submission on so Cass comes in to break the hold. Dawson knocks him off the apron, but when he goes back to Enzo, he is pulled into a small package for the 1-2-3.

Winners: Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore in 2:20

I love watching the Mechanics work. They are so old school and it’s so great. This was too short to be anything of note though.

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson attack after the match and leave Enzo an dCass lying. Impressively, they hit the Shatter Machine on Big Cass.

A special look at Rhyno is now shown.

Eva Marie speaks from Paris, where she is soaking up the culture. She wants the fans to miss her because she misses them.

Danny Burch vs. James Storm

The fans don’t react as they don’t know who it is until James Storm steps onto the stage and his names appears on the tron. The reaction is pretty great. “You belong here” chants for Storm. Burch doesn’t care and goes right on the offensive, shoulder blocking him down. Storm comes back with a hip toss but eats an uppercut. Burch lays into him in the corner but Storm comes back with an inverted atomic drop and clothesline. He charges in and hits a big enziguri like kick before coming off the ropes with a neckbreaker. Storm picks him up and hits the 8 Second Ride for the win.

Winner: James Storm in 1:52

A fine little showcase for James Storm and he got the reaction they wanted.

After the match, Storm leans over Burch and shouts “SORRY ABOUT YOUR DAMN LUCK”.

In two weeks, Apollo Crews gets his NXT Title shot at Finn Balor. A special look and sit down interview is shown of Apollo. He talks about his childhood and how he was drawn to the Ultimate Warrior. It’s very similar to the build up that Finn Balor got heading into Beast in the East. We see some early footage of Apollo’s career. Next week is part two of the Apollo Crews interview.

A Nia Jax vignette airs, saying she’ll be here again next week.

Alexa Bliss w/ Blake and Murphy vs. Peyton Royce

Peyton takes Alexa over and Alexa gets out, leading to a standstill. Peyton gets some near falls on flash pins. She drops down too early and Alexa just steps on, which is a pretty solid heel move. The crowd is behind Peyton as Alexa goes to work on her arm. Peyton fights out and hits a high kick followed by a dropkick. She continues with the kicks, including another high one that gets two. “Peyton Royce” is chanted to the “New Day rocks” tune. Alexa avoids a move in the corner and just clubs on Peyton before hitting a back handspring double knee drop. She goes up top and connects on the Sparkle Splash for the victory.’

Winner: Alexa Bliss in 3:34

I have to admit that Peyton Royce and Billie Kay both impressed me again today. Alexa Bliss though, seems to have improved a bit as well. Not much, but I think the heel persona is working well.

After the match, Alexa Bliss gets on the microphone and congratulates Bayley again. She says that she is what everybody strives to be and that she was made to be the NXT Women’s Champion.

Baron Corbin vs. Rhyno

They lock horns and Rhyno gets the advantage with right hands, chops and kicks in the corner. A right hand sends Corbin outside and Rhyno continues the assault. A small “we want Tyler” chant starts. Back inside, Rhyno still clobbers away before choking Corbin. Corbin rolls outside for a breather and when Rhyno follows, he is sent into the steel steps. Rhyno is up to break the count but gets stomped on before a commercial break. Returning, Corbin is still manhandling Rhyno with a big whip into the corner. He does it again to the opposite corner. Corbin wears him down before tossing him over while commentary reminds us that this is a heavyweight brawl and not a technical battle. Rhyno charges into a spinning slam for two near falls. Corbin slides out and goes for a right hand, but Rhyno dodges and hits his own. He then sends Corbin into the steps. When Corbin gets back in, Rhyno takes him down adn hits a shoulder thrust. A belly to belly suplex gets him two. Rhyno nails a spinebuster for another near fall. Rhyno dodges a clothesline and nails the Gore but Corbin gets his shoulder up. “One more Gore” chants. He goes for a second but gets caught in the End of Days.

Winner: Baron Corbin in 10:03

It was the heavyweight brawl that they advertised but it wasn’t the best of matches. Most of the early stuff was dreadfully boring and it only got mildly interesting near the end. *3/4

Backstage, Samoa Joe calls Tyler Breeze a desperate man who again fell short of the NXT Championship. He’s obviously pissed at Tyler for costing him the battle royal. He wants Tyler to use that selfie stick again and take a picture because when he’s done with him next week, he will never look the same again.
