411’s WWE Smackdown Report 2.24.05

February 24, 2005 | Posted by Nick Marsico

WWE SmackDown! is taped from Philadelphia, PA at the Wachovia Center. As always, our commentary team is Michael Cole and Tazz, and tonight is Thursday, February 24, 2005.

Tonight, JBL will celebrate his history making title defense, as he is the longest reigning WWE Champion in almost 10 years. The opening package is basically all about RAW, which is kind of annoying. Also tonight, Linda McMahon will be on hand to tell us all of the decision made by the Board of Directors about Teddy Long’s GM status, and the Undertaker will face Jindrak and Reigns in a Double Jeopardy match.

WWE Tag Team Championship
Eddy Guerrero & Rey Mysterio vs. The Basham Brothers

Eddy starts off with Danny and they lock up. Headlock is grabbed by Basham and Eddy gets out with a pair of armdrags. Eddy makes a tag in to Mysterio and he takes over on Danny, getting a hurricanrana for 2. Another tag back out to Guerrero and he goes after Danny’s left knee. Into the corner Eddy gets whipped into the opposite one, but gets a boot to the face and a 2 count off a backdrop suplex before Doug breaks it up. Doug comes in with a spinebuster from the second rope, but Rey comes in to break up the fall.

Coming back on the air, Doug misses a leg drop and Eddy capitalizes with a swinging neckbreaker. Eddy wants a tag but Rey is down on the outside. Danny is in and gets a reverse DDT. Tag back out to Doug and he whips Guerrero into the corner, but he misses a charge and hits the post. Rey is still down, allowing Doug to get a knee to the back and a tag back out to his brother. Danny puts in a neck vice, then snapmares Eddy, but he gets out of a surfboard only to run into a powerslam for a pair of 2 counts. Eddy gets driven into the corner and Doug is tagged in and gets an elbow from the second rope for 2. He works into a single leg crab, but Doug knocks Mysterio off the apron before they can get a tag. Danny comes back in and distracts the ref while Doug uses the tag rope for a choke. Eddy battles back with some rights to both men and comes off the ropes with a dropkick on Danny. Tags on both sides and Rey comes in with a seated senton to Doug and a dropkick on Danny’s knees. Stereo 10-punches for the Champs and Rey gets a springboard moonsault on Doug for a 2 count. Doug gets the Angel’s Wings (without the turn) for 2, and Eddy comes in to break it up, and gets 2 parts of the Three Amigos. Rey goes for the 619 but ends up hitting Guerrero, and Danny gets a big backdrop suplex leading to a top rope headbutt for Doug for 2. 619 finally gets Doug and Eddy flies off with the Frog Splash for him and takes Danny down on the outside. Rey comes off the top and Drops the Dime for the pin.

The GM is in the ring, and he is proud to be the General Manager regardless of the decision made by the Board of Directors. Carlito then makes his way out to the ring and is glad that the GM will be no more, and that he’ll be able to have all the fun. Apparently, that’s cool. Long will still be the GM, as everything he’s done was for the greater good and for the SD! fans. The crowd cheers their “Teddy! Teddy!” chants, and the GM takes a bite of Carlito’s apple and tells him to show up for work early and that he has something in store for Cool. He steals CCC’s line and exits.
