-Thanks to everyone who has followed along with these reports over the last few days. We close this season with the final episode focused on SummerSlam.
-Becky Lynch talks about the reality of all the people she had to lie to with her family and friends. She is fine with lying to the fans, but this was something else. Everyone is texting Becky, and she is freaking out as she doesn’t know if she has to lie to Seth’s dad. Seth was just ignoring everyone’s calls and texts. Seth says he is a much better liar than she is. Becky just kept telling people he would be fine, which was her way to lie and not really lie.
-We see Becky tell HHH that going forward, she doesn’t want to know. It’s funny hearing them humble to try to keep it from being heard, and you can see HHH smirking at her.
-Seth says the crutches were the worst, and he had to fly with a brace on his knee. Everyone played the role perfectly except their daughter. Seth didn’t lie to her, so she told her teacher at day care that Seth didn’t have a real boo boo. That’s great! Miss Jon became part of the inner circle, and they appreciate she kept it quiet.
-Show opening!
-HHH discusses the importance of SummerSlam, and we see highlights from previous events: Bret/Bulldog, Savage/Liz wedding, Rey getting custody of Dom, Bearer turning on Taker, Shane falling off The Tron, and Taker sending Edge to hell. He talks about how the talent has grown, and they need two roles now.
-The focus for this show on Night One is Punk/Gunther and Jelly/Orton vs. Drew/Logan. They used Jelly Roll hosting Jimmy Kimmel to add to the event as Logan crashed the show and Jelly Roll put him through the table with a choke slam after a slap to the face. Jelly says he wasn’t nervous. He was scared of being rejected and hasn’t had that fear in a long time.
-SummerSlam Day 1: Jelly comes to HHH and says he wants to go heels up as the finish. HHH says he will mull it over, but has to feel it out for a bit. Jelly says he wanted to lose because the story is that he isn’t qualified to be in there. Daniel Bryan would be proud of Jelly wanting to lose. Jelly and Logan go over the spot through the announce table. Gregory Helms tells Jelly he will be fine. Hayes tells him to sit up a little bit before impact, and it may knock the wind out of him, but “you will be fine. Later.” Ha! Hayes continues that he will feel it later and tomorrow when he wakes up.
-GUNTHER tells HHH that he feels really bad for Seth. It seems GUNTHER figured out it isn’t really, and HHH says that’s fine, as he needs to know what they are doing tonight. Robert Roode talks to CM Punk about what’s happening to close the show. They want Punk to be as emotional as possible, and they will have a camera in the ring to sell the idea that they are done. Punk agrees that he will take his time and milk the reaction as long as possible. Punk tells HHH he thinks the post-match is awesome, and he is cool with it. Punk has cashed in twice, so he knows the deal.
-Cardi B is in Gorilla and hugs HHH. He tells her to take her time and have fun. She says HHH is so nice! Aww! Everyone is getting ready backstage as we see men getting their hair ready, which is kind of funny.
-Undertaker gives Jelly some last-minute advice,e and then Jelly thanks HHH for the spot. He tells him he will have a ball out there. Jelly’s wife is in the front row. Match starts, and Jelly tags himself into the ring to get Logan. Shane Helms is on the headset as the producer of the match. We get to the table spot, and Jelly says there is no way to tell what this is going to feel like. He admits he was petrified! His wife looks stunned seeing it happen. Paul hit that perfectly! Helms tells the ref to check on everyone, and it seems all good. The big moment was Jelly Roll getting helped out, but turning around and going back to the ring. The crowd is chanting for him, and they got the reaction they wanted. Logan and Drew get the win as HHH decided to run with Jelly’s suggestion to lose. Makes sense! Everyone celebrates on Gorilla. Jelly credits HHH for believing in him. He tells HHH it was the best night of his life. HHH offers his respect, and you can tell Jelly is touched.
-Paul Heyman asks Seth if he is on the boss, and then goes to see him. Roode tells Jessika Carr that there will be a cash-in with Seth, as she obviously needs to know. Heyman goes over all the details with Seth on the bus. Seth says he can’t wait to crack Punk with the case and will do it many times, hopefully. Heyman says get the heat and get out when the time is right.
-GUNTHER vs. Punk: Carr gets some last-minute thoughts from Roode as she is the ref that will be waiting for Seth and not the ref in the Punk/GUNTHER match. Punk/GUNTHER was awesome. I know some didn’t like it, but I dug the match and was invested in everything they were doing. Roode calls for Heyman, and Seth follows behind and is walking normally. Heyman says cell phones make it so much more difficult to keep a secret. It only takes one person to take a picture. They are building something that requires the audience to pay, and they have to give them big moments to make it enjoyable. Seth tells everyone in Gorilla it’s a miracle and jokes that the crutches were the death of him. Heyman tells HHH, “This is going to be fucking great.”
-GUNTHER gets busted open in the match, and we cut to Seth putting the brace back on and getting his crutches. Some good blood from GUNTHER! Punk hits GTS and another and gets the win and World Title to a big pop. Seth watching in the back: “Milk it motherfucker.”
-Seth’s music hits, and the crowd pops! Punk is dejected and starts looking around the stadium. Seth says he was worried the audience would know what was happening. We did Seth! He was worried the second pop wouldn’t be as big as the first. No worries! Becky is watching from the back and just has a massive smile on her face. Seth hobbles to walk away and then drops the crutches and reveals the ruse. There’s the pop he wanted! Seth rushes the ring and beats down Punk, who was just in a war. He makes sure to beat the piss out of him with the case and then cashes in. Stomp and New Champion! Just perfect! Seth says if the payoff works, then everything else worked, and he believes it worked perfectly.
-Becky and HHH hug, and Becky says she is glad it is over, so she doesn’t have to lie anymore. Seth comes back through Gorilla, and HHH calls him a lying motherfucker. Seth says he learned from the best. Becky is still just happy to be done with the lying. Seth says now they can do fantastic work wherever this leads. Oh, Seth, if you only knew. Punk says he is beat up and needs an ice bath and ice cream, but nights like this remind him of why he loves this business. Happy Punk is a wonderful thing to see! He hugs HHH back in Gorilla and thanks him for the chance. They agree it was everything it needed to be. HHH tells Punk that he is making him look like a genius for bringing him back. Still wild to see these two interact, and it makes me happy.
-Cody Rhodes next as we see him in a yoga class. The whole point is that it keeps his mind in the present, and it helps fix his body. We cut back to WrestleMania 41, where he lost the WWE Title to John Cena. Cody says he didn’t like the execution of the match, and they can do better. He isn’t complaining about the finish as to who won, but the actual match. Hayes says the match was flat because it wasn’t the Cena everyone wanted. “They aren’t going to hate you like you want them to.” No kidding! Hayes says John really wanted to make up for the Mania match and to make it up to Cody.
-WWE Creative Meeting: They are pitching the idea of Cena turning face and supporting Cody. They can have Cena finish out August to December as a face. They need a way to get Cena back to a face. The thing that hurt them is Cody needing to be away for six weeks to film Street Fighter. They decided to rush the Cena face turn and just have it happen the night before on SmackDown.
-Cody talks about what makes a good face turn and how it shouldn’t be a shock. It should be one where they and the audience are leading them to it. It basically came down to John saying I am a babyface again. So there you have it! Blame Street Fighter, I guess.
-SummerSlam Night Two: John Cena talks to Tyrese Haliburton as they want to work on something to get him involved. Cody says the story is about a Warrior’s Death and how it can be a street fight but still be about respect. They reference back to Shawn telling Ric, “I love you, but I am sorry.”
-Wes jumps to our other story for night two: Becky vs. Lyra. Lyra notes their match is No DQ, and so is Cena/Cody, so it makes it harder. Yeah, probably should have put Becky and Lyra on Night One. Hayes says gimmick matches are hard to prepare for because you have to save the stuff for the match. They work over some ideas and throw things out to see what could work.
-Becky says they are debuting her new music as well. She loves the song and reached out to The Wonder Years herself. They were on board and wrote the song within two days of her asking. She talks about some of the Easter Eggs in the song, with one being “I talk to your ghosts every night,” and that’s for her dad, who has passed. She tells HHH they last time they were in the stadium was Mania 35, and her dad was in the front row. She gets emotional, and HHH tells her it is all good. Becky says it is good to get it out now, and HHH tells her it is good to remember where you come from. I have those moments too. Love you, Jeff!
-HHH gets the crowd fired up to start Night Two. We cut to Lyra getting her hair done, and she talks about freaking out while trying not to freak out.
-Lyra vs. Becky: Seth is watching backstage. Lyra admits she lost the battle before the match even started. She felt the pressure and couldn’t live in the moment. She knew she wasn’t in the zone and says anything that could have gone wrong went wrong. In a hilarious moment, she brings up throwing Becky into a photographer by accident, and Lyra apologizes to him. TJ is laughing on the headset and says Lyra is just too nice. She says nothing with the weapons went the way it was supposed to go. The zip ties were Lyra’s idea, and they came off. TJ: “Oh shit!” HHH: “Is she still out of those?” Lyra says she is trained to just roll with it, but overthought it and figured the cameras didn’t see, so she put them back on. Oh man! Poor Lyra! She knew what to do, and she froze. Seth is shaking his head in Gorilla and notes she put her hands back in the ties. Then she couldn’t free herself from them, and TJ says she is supposed to use the ring, but instead she crawls under the ring to have someone cut them. You can tell she is annoyed. They are also running way too long, and HHH says they need to go. TJ: “I am not sure what is happening.” HHH: “fuck.” You know, this is making it so much more memorable. You just have those nights. They went nearly 10 minutes long. That makes sense, as I remember that match just going and going. Seth knows Becky is going to be pissed.
-Becky apologizes to Hayes, who tells her it was still pretty good. Becky says that’s not good enough. Becky says it wasn’t the drizzling shits, but you can tell she is bummed. Lyra feels she let herself down, and she didn’t even want to go back to Gorilla. She kept apologizing to Becky and wanted her to yell at her, but Becky won’t do it. She tells her it is just wrestling, and she appreciates the mindset and that she cares. Bayley hugs her, and they try to put a positive spin on it. Cena gives her a pep talk and tells her it was violent and brutal. “It’s way better than you think.”
-Lyra just can’t accept that, and you can see that she is crying. She mentions again that sometimes anything that can go wrong, goes wrong. Someone else hug her! She notes it happens to everyone at some point, and they need to pick up and move on. She is saying all the right things, but needs to believe it. Her cursing was kind of cute to hear.
-Cena offers HHH a handshake and thanks him for tonight. Cody gets props from Jelly Roll as we get ready for our Main Event.
-Cena vs. Rhodes: HHH tells the crew to leave the crowd chant before hitting Cena’s music. We get the heel Cena treatment, and then the COLORS ARE BACK TO A MASSIVE POP! Just like that, Super Cena is back in the building! Cody says he is glad he got to be part of the old John Cena returning. Cena and Cody hug before the match, and then they start punching each other in the face. That’s great! Bobby Roode is the producer on the headset. As planned, they work Haliburton into the match and use his crutch. SLIM JIM TABLE! HHH says John is doubting himself more than anyone else is doubting him. HHH says John can still deliver like he used to, no matter what he says. Truth! Cena breaks out a Code Red. BROCK LESNAR GUY! HHH notes Father Time beats everyone, but on this night, Cena was magic. Cody notes that John is as popular and over as he has ever been, and he has to deal with that. They show the fans booing Cody and cheering Cena. PILEDRIVER! The story is that Cody loves Cena too and questions if he is going too far. Cody tells us that Cena looked up to him in the match and tells him, “Be you.” They didn’t need Cody to lean into the crowd booing and go heel for the match. He can stab Cena in the front, but not the back. He talks about sticking to your virtues as a face, and we see him give Cena a salute before pinning him. Cody wins back the WWE Title.
-You can see the emotion in Cody’s face. He and Cena embrace after the match, and Cody leaves the ring to Cena. The crowd rains down applause and appreciation to Cena. HHH says Cena can still tell stories better than anyone. The reality is that he has 12 dates left, and they need to make it a roller coaster ride. Oh yeah! HHH says anyone who doesn’t need to be on Gorilla needs to get “the fuck out.”
-Brock Lesnar shows up in Gorilla. Hayes talks about the rivalry between Brock and Cena, and we see the infamous SummerSlam match where Brock SQUASHED Cena. That match made me laugh so much! Hayes: “When you don’t see something coming, it’s really good.”
-Brock’s music hits, and the crowd LOSES IT! Cowboy Brock is back! Brock hits John with the F5 as Cody and others look on from Gorilla.
-New episodes coming Summer 2026! Cool!
-Still funny seeing Peyton Manning listed as an Executive Producer.
-Teaser Trailer: We get a 60-second look at what’s coming, and this focuses on Cena’s final four months in the company and especially his last match. Can’t wait!
-Well, after three days and over five hours, we have made it through. I actually like that they dump all episodes at one time. Things like this are just fun to binge. Overall, I found this series enjoyable, just like season one. I think I liked this season better as things seemed tighter and more focused. As always, they are still in control of the narrative and only let us see what they want, but a lot of what we do get to see is stuff I always wanted to see. The dynamic with HHH and everyone is always fascinating to me. I can only imagine how this show would have worked if Vince were still the one in charge in Gorilla. For this episode, I found all four stories fascinating. All credit to Jelly Roll for going out there and taking this spot seriously. We have seen some celebrities do the bare minimum. The Rollins stuff was what we expected, though it was fun hearing them talk it out and see who they let know and who they kept it from. Poor Lyra just needs a hug, and I appreciate that she cares that much. We got an answer kind of as to why Cena just decided to turn face, and they left with the Lesnar return to set up Season Three. Give me more of this show! Thanks for reading!
