Backstage Status Update on Edge, Current WWE Contract

– Fightful Select has an update on WWE Superstar Edge, who has been off TV since losing his I Quit Match with Finn Balor at Extreme Rules. According to the report, Edge’s current WWE deal has limited dates, which is why he hasn’t been on TV for a while to build up a potential rematch with Finn Balor or The Judgment Day.

According to a WWE higher-up, the vignettes with Edge over the summer were reportedly done as a way to “buy some weeks” on TV before Edge made his return and build up some important matches for him for the rest of 2022. He later came back and faced Finn Balor and Damian Priest.

Edge reportedly signed a three-year contract back in 2020, which included 25 appearances and five matches per year. However, Edge ended up working 10 matches in 2021, and he’s already worked six matches in 2022. So it’s possible some of that information was likely incorrect, or his contract may have been amended.

It’s unknown how many dates are currently left on Edge’s contract or if the deal might be ending soon. Fightful also notes that the former WWE Champion did have talks with AEW before ultimately signing with WWE for his return in early 2020. Edge made his return to the ring at the WWE Royal Rumble that year in the men’s Rumble match.
