Fightful Select has an update on recent rumors that The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) are expected to be leaving AEW and heading for WWE once their contracts expire. With regards to their contracts, it’s currently believed that Penta’s AEW contract will expire first, while Fenix’s contract expires in September.

Fightful notes that AEW wanted to re-up both wrestlers, but the process was repeatedly delayed by both Penta and Fenix. In recent weeks, it reportedly became evident that the two weren’t looking to re-sign with AEW, which was signified by AAA booker Konnan writing on social media, “What goes around comes around 2.”

Additionally, Fightful reports that there have been discussions internally in WWE about bringing in The Lucha Bros. WWE sources reportedly believe Fenix and Penta want to be a package deal and also do not want to go to NXT. Also, one source who is close to the wrestlers says it wouldn’t be surprising to see this individual in Orlando to prepare for the defection “sooner rather than later.”

Additionally, multiple sources close to The Lucha Brothers have said that the wrestlers have been very open in claiming they’ve already had talks with WWE, and there even a preliminary offer on the table. The offer is reportedly similar to what AEW offered them to renew their contracts. When WWE was reached for comment, Fightful reports that WWE wouldn’t comment on the matter.

The Lucha Brothers have been part of AEW since the company began, appearing on AEW’s first event, Double or Nothing 2019, where they lose to The Young Bucks. During their run, they’ve become AEW Tag Team Champions and held the AEW World Trios Titles with PAC as part of Death Triangle. Rey Fenix also became AEW International Champion.
