Sasha Banks was a no-show at tonight’s WWE Summerslam PPV and Bianca Belair ended up defending her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Carmella instead. At least, that’s what it seemed was going to happen, until Becky Lynch made her return to WWE to a huge ovation from the Las Vegas crowd. She then laid out Carmella and challenged Belair on the spot for a title match, which the champion accepted. In less than a minute, Lynch laid out Belair and won the title.

Banks status for the PPV was up in the air after she and Belair missed two live events last weekend. She also missed last night’s episode of Smackdown and her status is currently unknown.

As for Lynch, she has been absent from WWE programming since the May 11, 2020 episode of RAW. At that show, she gave up the RAW Women’s title to Asuka and announced she was pregnant. This is her fifth reign as the Smackdown women’s champion. She ends Belair’s reign at 133 days, after she defeated Banks at night one of Wrestlemania on April 10.
