Billy Gunn recently did an interview with Inside the Ropes where he discussed a number of topics pertaining to his involvement with WWE & AEW. As you may recall, Gunn was involved in the WWE Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in 2019 as part of De-Generation X. There was some intrigue around this due to Gunn having recently signed with AEW to be a coach. Triple H responded to some fans chanting “AEW” by saying that Vince McMahon would buy that “pissant company”, which generated some online hubbub at the time.

People still do ask about it, and Gunn had the following to say:

On Triple H’s Comments Towards AEW at the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony:

I knew it was coming. I kind of knew that they were going to do something AEW because it was hot at the time, and I was there, and they’re all wondering how I got to go there and that’s because Tony Khan was super cool, because they were going to stick us (DX) in and I went and asked and he said 100%. He said ‘Of course you can, I would never hold you back from that.’ I didn’t know what they were going to do, but I knew they were going to do something. And I also knew that if they were, that Hunter was going to have something to say about it. So once I set myself up to let all that, I just let it go, you know, and the only one that got hurt out of that whole deal was him (Triple H). Like, and I don’t want to say it, but it was just a dick move, right? It was it was kind of trying to save face and you didn’t need to because it’s going to happen. It’s the wrestling business. That’s what we do. That’s what they like to stir up. So they’re when you have somebody in another company…it’s one, they can’t believe it because I’m sure a lot of the people didn’t think I was going to make it because I did work for another company. And then when you see me and then they have to do it, it’s like an unwritten thing in a book. If another guy is in another company, we have to say something and do something. And they started chanting it (AEW) and they would…and then you get a response from the guy that’s leading the company.”
