During a recent interview with Vicente Beltrán, WWE Superstar Blake Monroe discussed the status of former Women’s Champion Asuka, who appeared to have a farewell moment with Iyo Sky following their match at WWE Backlash earlier this month. Two nights later on Raw, Asuka appeared in a segment with Iyo Sky, telling her she would “see you later.”

Monroe had high praise for Asuka, sharing her respect for the former champion. Below are some highlights:

Blake Monroe on Asuka

“So, Asuka to me is one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world, and I remember watching her after she won the Rumble wrestling Charlotte Flair and thinking, ‘ Wow, like she’s something special,’ and I feel like she came to WWE and she elevated the NXT women’s locker room. She elevated the main roster locker room, too. You know, I don’t know where, you know, where her heart is, what her decision is, but I would love to wrestle her one day. So, for me, I’m kind of heartbroken, like if this is it, but I also respect her and what a career she’s had. So, I mean, she’s amazing.”

On Learning from Shawn Michaels in NXT and Now Triple H on SmackDown

“Oh, I’m so excited. I mean, my time in NXT, Shawn Michaels was so hands-on. Like, he wasn’t afraid to literally take bumps to like show you, you know, what his vision is, but he was also really collaborative cuz he’s like, you only you know the glamour and only you know how you’re going to feel and react to this. And he respects like what makes people different, but also he’s one of the best wrestlers in the world, Shawn Michaels. So that was awesome. And then now to get to work with Triple H, like based off of my real-life name, my nickname at school was Triple M because everyone was like she’s the wrestling fan, and then everybody watched WWE, so we knew like John Cena, Batista, Triple H, everyone. So I was Triple M.

“So I’m so excited to get to work with him, and I’ve, you know, I’ve been at SmackDown. I haven’t debuted yet, but every week it’s possible. And, you know, I see how again hands-on he is in terms of producing matches or things that he wants. And I’m really excited to kind of get that knowledge. And I think, you know, I’m really lucky to have access to that and to have access to these people who have had such amazing careers, and now they’re going to share a little bit of that knowledge with the glamour.”

As noted, Asuka reportedly returned to Japan to deal with an undisclosed family issue. It’s also said that she’s currently still under contract to WWE.

Meanwhile, Monroe was recently announced as “coming soon” to the show. WWE SmackDown also heads to the Olimpic Arena in Barcelona, Spain on May 29.
