Backstage Status Update on Asuka Following Her WWE Raw Appearance

There are many questions surrounding WWE Superstar and former Women’s Champion Asuka, following her recent moment with Iyo Sky after their match at last weekend’s WWE Backlash. Asuka also appeared at last night’s WWE Raw, embracing Iyo and telling her, “See you later,” and then she exited the building.

PWInsider had another update on Asuka’s WWE status. According to the report, the word making the rounds within WWE was that the former champion plans to return to Japan “for an extended period of time” to deal with an undisclosed family matter.

It’s also said that The Empress of Tomorrow remains signed with WWE, but she will be taking “an extended absence.” For now, it appears that Asuka taking time off and leaving appears unrelated to the recent releases or WWE Superstars reportedly taking pay cuts.

As noted, Asuka’s former tag team partner, Kairi Sane, was among last month’s talent releases, despite Kairi being an important part of Iyo Sky’s storyline with Asuka. Their feud culminated at WWE Backlash last Saturday, with Iyo Sky scoring the victory.
