Backstage Note on WWE’s Plans for Asuka Before Her Hiatus

Earlier this year, WWE Superstar and former Women’s Champion Asuka said farewell to IYO SKY on Monday Night Raw following their match at Backlash. Asuka later said in a vlog that she’s still officially part of WWE and hasn’t exited the company. During the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp answered a fan question about Asuka.

With regard to Asuka, Sapp noted that the former champion’s hiatus is due to a personal matter she needed to go back to Japan to handle. Additionally, it’s said that WWE wanted to use her throughout the year and was also hoping she’d be back. However, it’s also said that WWE officials didn’t take issue with her going back home.

As previously noted, Asuka recently responded to a comment on social media asking about her status. An X user wrote, “There are people posting as if Asuka-san has left WWE, but that’s a lie, right? She’s just taking a break right now, right?” Asuka later responded, “I haven’t left the team. I haven’t quit.”

It’s currently unknown when Asuka will make her WWE return.
