– During the latest Something to Wrestle, WWE’s Bruce Prichard spoke about late WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk being the reason Shotgun Saturday Night being taken off the air due to an infamous promo he cut on the show before the 1997 Royal Rumble. Shotgun Saturday Night was a syndicated WWE program that aired late at night from 1997 to 1999 before being replaced by Jakked.

Originally, the show presented an edgier, late night edition of WWE programming. However, the show eventually transitioned to becoming a recap-type show for WWE. Prichard cited a promo with Terry Funk on a 1997 episode he credits as what got the show taken off the air. During the promo, Funk called Vince mcMahon a “Yankee bastard,” and he also called out Bret Hart, saying, “Your mother’s a whore.” Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):

Bruce Prichard on the instructions he gave Terry Funk: “Wrestle Bret, have a hell of a match, let’s get him over, and maybe a little promo beforehand. All I ask of you … ‘This is live … I know it’s late night but we’re live, and we’ve got a lot of eyeballs on us. Please, just watch your language, no hells, goddamns, or s***, please.'”

Prichard on Shotgun Saturday Night being taken off the air due to Terry Funk: “When people say, ‘Bruce, whatever happened to that show Shotgun Saturday Night? I say, Terry Funk.’ So yeah, we got thrown off the air — for those comments. I think we had a goddamn in there, we had everything I asked him not to do.”

Prichard on Funk putting him in a trough of ice: “And there’s one point in the match [against Hart] where they had the big troughs of beer, on ice, and at one point, he [Funk] grabs me and put me in it. I didn’t have a change of clothes.”
