Bully Ray Says AJ Lee Would’ve Made Dusty Rhodes Proud With Her Return Promo on WWE Raw

During recent editions of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray discussed AJ Lee making her epic return to WWE last week at SmackDown. In another episode, he also discussed the return promo by AJ Lee last Monday on Raw, and how it would’ve made the late Dusty Rhodes proud. Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):

Bully Ray on how fans reacted to the AJ Lee return in Chicago: “I don’t believe that the reception that AJ Lee got in Chicago will be a one-off response or an anomaly. I believe that she’s gonna get these responses and these pops in every town that she goes to. I do think that Seth, Punk, and Becky will have to go out of their way to put that first match together in a way that features AJ Lee’s strengths and makes sure she doesn’t expose herself from the 10 year’s she’s been away.”

On how her return storyline was a “perfect storm”: “If AJ lee would’ve returned to the WWE but not in this specific storyline, is the reaction as loud as the welcome back has been?”

Bully Ray on how AJ Lee would’ve made Dusty Rhodes happy with her WWE Raw promo: “If Dusty was here, he would be so happy, because she sold tickets last night, and that’s what you wanna do. When I teach my students, I say, the who, the what, the where, the why … you build a story around those bullet points. And then when you’re telling that story, cutting that promo, there’s only one thing you want a fan to do – put their hand in their pocket and take out their money.”

On why AJ Lee did such a good job: “What did AJ Lee do last night? She told us who she was. Your millennial parents remember me, thus I don’t need to reintroduce myself, but for those of you who don’t, my name is AJ Lee, there’s your who. It sounds so simple, yet it’s so important. I need to know who you are, I need to know why you’re here.”
