Ciocco’s AEW Dynamite Review 6.24.26
SICKOS! It’s Wednesday, you know what that means! AEW Dynamite is LIVE tonight from the Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico (small world, I know), and we are officially on the home stretch counting down the days until the crossover event known as Forbidden Door! And, honestly, what a better way to promote this than to have a handful of crossover matches tonight, including one that teeters on the edge of being a DREAM MATCH!
But we also have other business to attend to tonight, and without further ado, let’s get into those Headlines!
So, how is everyone doing on this Hump Day? Phillies win last night was arguably their best game of the season, just for the 8th and 9th innings of the game alone. Also, I am over the moon that one of my favorite all-time bands will be returning to the city that I used to live in, and this time, I won’t miss Cheap Trick! After all, they are celebrating their 50th anniversary of their self-titled debut and In Color, so who knows how much longer they intend to keep touring.
But enough about me and enough about you, let’s get ready to make the Dynamite go BOOM!

Tonight, Dynamite is LIVE from New Mexico, where we did not take a wrong turn in Albuquerque! Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Nigel McGuiness will bring us the action tonight!
The Death Riders are in the back to open the show. Jon Moxley says sometimes they fall down, but they always get back up and they always fight. They always have each other’s backs in this world of wrestling and sports entertainment. Moxley says go out there and kick some ass, and everyone does the victory circle except Jon. Ospreay ends up on his ass somehow, and Garcia laughs at him.
Speaking of the Death Riders!
The Death Riders vs. Brodido and Mistico
Bandido and Yuta will start this off. The fans are behind Bandido as we get the lock-up. Excalibur reminds us that this is the first time we’ve seen Yuta since he was attacked by Shane Taylor Promotions. Yuta works a single crab on Bandido and tries to cross his legs, but Bandido said no sir and he hits two arm drags. A third one is blocked by Yuta, but the joke is on Wheeler as Bandido gets the third one anyway. Both men trade counters and we get a stand-off. Bandido gets a flying head-scissor on Yuta, and he tags in Moxley at Bandido’s behest.
Moxley and Bandido trade go-behinds. Moxley looking sleeper, but Bandido gets to the ropes. Moxley shoves him into the DR corner, and he gets stomped out by the Death Riders and has his hair grabbed by Marina. Claudio with the tag, but Bandido hits a snap Rana and tags in Mistico. Mistico keeps Claudio off guard for a while, but he jumps into a tilt-a-world back breaker from the Swiss Superman.
Mistico is back to his feet, and he takes Claudio around the World with a Tiaras. Unbeknownst to Claudio, King gets the tag, as he backs into the big man. King with chops, but Moxley and Yuta hit the ring and take out Bandido and Mistico. King counters both Claudio and Moxley by bouncing off the top rope and hitting a double arm drag to both men! Bandido and Mistico are back, and all three men take flight and wipe out the Death Riders on the floor! This will take us to the break.
The Death Riders are giving out corner clotheslines to Bandido as we return. Yuta hits a brain buster on Bandido, but Moxley is the legal man and gets a two on the pin. Moxley eggs Bandido on, and he eats a strike to drop Bandido. This happens again, but the next time, Bandido lands more strikes and hits a dropkick.
Moxley and Bandido tag out, as Mistico meets Claudio with a flying crossbody. Mistico intercepts Yuta with a flying head scissor, and he hits a Destroyer on Claudio, but Moxley makes the save. King gets the tag and he headbutts Claudio, but he misses his charge. That allows Moxley to tag in, and he tries to choke out King. Brody smashes Jon in the corner, Brody goes ARF, and he hits the CANNONBALL! King looking piledriver, but Claudio saves him, but he eats a deadlift suplex from Bandido!
It’s back to King and Moxley, as Brody salts him with a lariat. Marina gets on the apron, but it’s a distraction, as Claudio uses Jon’s Continental Title to clock King in the head with it. Moxley stacks up King and he wins it!
WINNERS: The Death Riders
TIME: 12:20
THOUGHTS: Fun opening match. A team like Brodido and Mistico most certainly works, and the Death Riders were the perfect foil for them.
RATING: ***1/2
Renee Paquette (with her Rebel shirt on) has the Conglomeration (and friends) sans Mark Briscoe. She wants to know if they feel ready. Darby says no, they don’t feel ready, because this Mark’s chance to get a title shot. And he hopes they feel the same, that they have to come together to help Mark. Roderick says he won’t forgive MJF for what he did to his best friend, ADAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Kyle says you can put anything in the ring when you’re in a steel cage, like Takeshita’s title belt. He also says Briscoe isn’t here, but he will be in the middle of the ring later to give us all a piece of his mind. Everyone leaves, but Cassidy lays back, and Renee asks him how he is doing. Cassidy says it’s fine, but then they both look around. SUSPENSE!
Marina is still at ring side, as her match is up next!
Survival of the Fittest Qualifying match: Marina Shafir vs. Harley Cameron
Harley is leaning into the Supergirl look, and I wholeheartedly approve. Marina doesn’t, though, and she kicks Cameron while she is on the apron making her entrance. Marina works over Harley for a bit and grounds her and looks to punch away, but Harley escapes and catches Marina in a single leg crab! Marina escapes and ends up on the floor, as Harley takes off and torpedoes into Marina! Marina is returned to the ring, but she intercepts Harley and throws her off the top rope. That’ll take us to the break.
Marina snaps Harley around with Judo throws as we return. She knees Harley in the midsection, and she takes time to admire her work. Marina misses a round kick, and Harley hits a release German! Marina is back to her feet first, but Harley hits her with a roundhouse kick! Cameron corners Marina, and she rains down the right hands. She counters Marina’s Irish Whip with a flying clothesline, but she runs into the bare foot of Marina.
That one’s for you, AG Awesome!
Marina tells Harley to feel the wrath, baby, but Cameron catches her in the single leg crab again. Marina sits back into a full body sleeper, but Cameron leans back and she catches a flash pin victory!
WINNER: Harley Cameron
TIME: 7:50
THOUGHTS: Never doubt Harley Cameron, ere Supergirl! Feel the Wrath!
RATING: ***
We get a look at the Maya World and Mercedes Mone match coming up on Sunday. Maya says this is her Dream Match, but Mone says that she may have beaten her teacher, but she is her BOSS! And she doesn’t deal in fantasy and dream matches; she deals in wins.
BRUV!
Will Ospreay vs. ELP
ELP gives a kid his glasses at ring side, ala Bret Hart during the New Generation and also like a fellow Canadian. Both men struggle for wrist control early on, with Ospreay getting a quick pin for a two. Both men trade pin falls and they both cancel out kicks. ELP with a shoulder tackle, but Ospreay kips up and chops him. ELP takes Ospreay to the ropes, he jumps to the top rope, and he hits a flying head scissor, but AGAIN Ospreay kips right back up.
Ospreay dropkicks ELP to the floor and then takes him out on the floor, and he even takes time to mock himself over his snafu in the back earlier lol. Ospreay tries to bring ELP back into the ring, but Will gets a backdrop onto the apron for his troubles. ELP with a picture perfect moonsault, and that will take us to the break.
ELP has Ospreay grounded with a cravat as we return. Ospreay is able to free himself and he hits a big enziguri, staggering ELP to the ropes. ELP sends off Ospreay, but Will fires back with the corkscrew kick! The cover, but ELP kicks out at two. Ospreay with a Stun Dog Millionaire, stealing a page from OC’s book, but ELP holds on and hits Will with a STUNNER!
Both men trade strikes from their knees, but Ospreay changes levels and decks ELP with one forearm. Ospreay keeps on with the forearms, but ELP eats them and delivers open handed palm strikes. Ospreay eats those and delivers the Kawada kicks. ELP catches Ospreay in the Torture Rack, but Ospreay escapes and he hits Poison Rana for a two. Ospreay looking Hidden Blade, but ELP catches him with a snap Rana. A thrust kick from ELP gets him a two.
ELP is feeling himself and he looks for a piledriver, but Ospreay reverses it and hits the BRUV Clash! Hidden Blade connects to the back of the head, and that ends it for Will!
WINNER: Will Ospreay
TIME: 10:45
THOUGHTS: No big surprise that these guys went out there and cooked, considering the history they have in New Japan. Will can’t miss, and ELP is always amazing.
RATING: ****
Ospreay yuks it up with fans at ring side, but as he goes to leave, Prince Nana and Swerve Strickland make their way out. Got to say, this match has the feel of an episode of Collision, when the matches kept rolling without a break of any kind. Definitely not a bad thing. Daniel Garcia makes his way in from the outside and throws his water bottle of water on the sidewalk. Freaking littering douchebag.
Swerve Strickland vs. Daniel Garcia
Garcia tries to intimidate Strickland by throwing a chair at ring side and then getting into his face before the bell. But when the bell rings, Strickland catches Garcia and smacks him around. Strickland with a shoulder tackle, but Garcia kips up and shoves Swerve, so he smacks him right in the mouth. Strickland sends Garcia to the corner and he lays in body shots and a shot to the face. Swerve take’s a page out of Moxley’s book when he scratches the back of Garcia. Strickland drops Garcia on the top rope and then hits a big boot, sending Danny to the apron.
Danny ends up on the floor, where Strickland goes to kick him in the head. But Garcia grabs his leg and he traps half of him in the ring skirt, and he hammers away on Swerve. Garcia with a Dragon Screw, and Strickland staggers to the chair in the corner by the barricade. Garcia takes WAY too much time, but he ends up hitting the John Woo dropkick anyway. Rather foolishly, Garcia goes back to the well again, but Swerve is waiting for him, and he hits the House Call! That’ll take us to the break.
Strickland has Garcia in the kill zone with a Swerve Stomp as we return. Fortunately for Garcia, he gets out of the way in time, and he hits another Dragon Screw in the ropes. Garcia looking for a piledriver on the apron, but Strickland turns the tables and hits a DVD on the apron.
Back in the ring, and Strickland hits a Brain Buster for a two. Strickland allows Garcia to keep getting to his feet, but he keeps dropping him with an elbow. Garcia off the ropes with a lariat, but Strickland barely moves. Strickland tells Garcia to do it again, so he does, and we get the same result. He fakes a third attempt and instead dropkicks Strickland in the knee.
Swerve with a self-defense kick to curb Garcia’s momentum, but he rolls right into the Ankle Lock! Strickland elbows his way free, and he picks up Garcia from a powerbomb position into a powerslam for a two. Strickland lines up Garcia, but he loses his footing, and Garcia hits the Danny Clash for a two! Strickland puts a stop to that with the House Call proper, but Garica won’t go down!
Strickland heads to the outside for a second, but he returns to the ring and loads up the Hidden Blade! He blindsides Garcia, and he gets the win!
WINNER: Swerve Strickland
TIME: 12:25
THOUGHTS: It’s not like Swerve was going to lose, but at this point, I’m not sure selling Garcia as a sympathetic babyface is the way to go. The match was good, as you would expect from two men of this caliber.
RATING: ***1/2
Post-match, Strickland looks to beat up on Garcia some more but Will Ospreay saves him! Ospreay looks to show Strickland a proper Hidden Blade, but Nana trips up Ospreay, allowing Swerve to hit a House Call. He looks to hit Ospreay with the Vertebreaker, but Garcia saves Ospreay, so Danny gets the Vertebreaker instead. Ospreay chases off Nana and Swerve with a chair.
We get a look at another one of our main events for Forbidden Door, featuring the 12-man steel cage match.
That leads us to the DCMJF union with Renee in the back. Don Callis hypes up the union, starting with Jake Doyle, who flexes for us. He hypes up Kevin Knight, who says Darby Allin should have minded his own business, was Double or Nothing not enough for you? And he calls out MJF and says when this playdate ever, he wants a title shot, and MJF says whatever kid. Callis kicks to Okada for this awesome exchange…
Callis: What do you have to say?
Okada: BITCH!
Kyle Fletcher says when the cage is locked, he is coming for Takeshita. MJF cuts off Andrade El Idolo, then goes into his usual schtick, saying that he has never worked a 9-to-5 job in his life, he gets porterhouse steaks served to him by the hottest waitresses alive, and he calls Briscoe a blue-collar bitch. There is a funny moment where MJF tells Rocky and Trent to beat it lol. MJF says that they had some hiccups last week and he isn’t blaming anyone (COUGHandradeCOUGH), but they need to be on the same page on Sunday.
Callis has a special gift for MJF, and it’s a T-Shirt in the vein of the Fletcher and Callis art, except it’s Don and MJF! The responses are hilarious, as Fletcher looks like he lost his mind, and Okada looks like he wants to barf lol.
It’s time for someone to kneel!
Zack Sabre Jr. W/Bad Dude Tito and Mikey Nicholls vs. Jungle Jack Perry
Perry looks to outmaneuver Sabre at the bell, but he can’t. He does try to roll over Sabre, but Zack sits him right back up. Perry trips up Sabre, but Zack ends up reversing Jack into a pin for a two.
Sabre grabs control of the hand and fingers of Perry and he controls both of his arms. Perry reverses this temporarily, but Zack ends up back in control, forcing Perry to get to the ropes. Perry tries two roll-ups that Zack kicks out of. Perry with a knee to the gut, and he rolls Sabre over and into a backslide for a two. Sabre rolls out of the ring, and he mock claps for Perry.
Sabre returns to the ring, Perry slaps him and hits the ropes, but Zack holds on to him, and he slides into the cross-arm breaker before kipping up and stomping on the left arm of Perry. Jack ends up on the floor, and Sabre tries to throw him into the ring post, but Jack reverses and Zack’s face meet the ring post. Perry does the Area Code Jones around the ring post, but Sabre goes back to arm manipulation with a stomp to the arm while Perry is trapped in the ropes. That’ll take us to the break.
Sabre is in control as we return. Perry manages to hit a Sliced Bread which sends Zack to the floor. Perry slides out into a wheelbarrow set-up, but Sabre holds on and applies the Cross-arm Breaker on the floor. Bryce heads to the outside and gets into Zack’s face. Sabre takes his time to taunt the fans, but Perry evades his stomp on the apron and hits another Sliced Bread! Orihara Moonsault from Jack (Hangman would appreciate that), and Perry sends Sabre back into the ring.
Perry’s next move is countered into a flying Triangle Sleeper. Zack gets Jack on the mat, but Perry powers his way to his feet and hits a Powerbomb for a two! THIS IS AWESOME chants, as Perry looks for a package piledriver, only for Sabre to escape into the sleeper. Perry sits back to escape and applies the Snare Trap. Sabre feigns he is in trouble, but Zack easily escapes the hold, and he grabs a double wrist lock. Perry scores with a Comebacker Lariat into the Tiger Driver for a two.
Perry takes his time to size up Sabre, but he runs into a Sabre leg lock trap. Perry tries to slap his way free, but Sabre switches into a bow-and-arrow and cranks back on the hold, forcing Perry to tap out.
WINNER: Zach Sabre Jr.
TIME: 13:15
THOUGHTS: There was little doubt that Sabre was losing this match, since he has the big match on Sunday with Kenny coming up. Perry got a lot of offense in, but with a bad arm, it was academic that Sabre would take this one.
RATING: ***3/4
And again, we’re wasting no time as the Young Bucks are here to kick the next match off! But first, we get a two minute break!
COMMERCIALS!
The Young Bucks vs. TMDK
And we’re back, as the bell rings and TMDK try to launch an attack. And with Rick Knox in the ring, it ensures that no rules will be enforced. Matt and Nick eventually turn the tables, and they do their bulldog into a high five spot. TMDK end up on the floor, and the Bucks hit stereo flying Topes. Back in the ring, and the Bucks remain in control, as they head to the top, but Nicholls crotches Matt, and Nick ends up in the arms of Tito, who chucks him with a Fallaway Slam.
Nicholls scores a pin on Matt for a two, as Tito forgets what corner he is supposed to be in, so he goes to the right corner so he can tag in. Tito with a powerslam to Matt, but he kicks out again at two. The tag to Nicholls, but Matt escapes both men and SUPERKICKS both of them.
Nick gets the tag and he hits a crossbody to both Nicholls and Tito. They try a double hip toss to Nick, but he lands on his feet, and he smashes their heads together. Escalada by Nick to both members of TMDK, and Matt is back for a SUPERKICK PARTY! Nick kicks Tito in the face from the apron, and the Bucks win it with a Meltzer Driver to Nicholls!
WINNERS: The Young Bucks
TIME: 4:20
THOUGHTS: Slightly above a squash, which is kind of disappointing if I am being honest. We all knew the Bucks were winning, but it would have been nice to see TMDK get a little but more offense.
RATING: ***
Post-match, TMDK get their heat back by attacking the Young Bucks. Kenny Omega and Jack Perry make the save, and Omega looks for a V-Trigger to Sabre, but Tito saves him. Omega has the mic. He wishes Zack the best, he truly does, but he is out for the win, and he is out for redemption. He says Zack is great, but like last year, they will forget all about him.
Sabre wants the mic and he tells Omega to stay out of the hospital, Darling!
Video package for the Women’s World Title match, and Thekla has been such a boon for this company, especially with Toni Storm out.
STIR IT UP!
Survival of the Fittest Qualifying Match: Queen Aminata vs. ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet
We have four spots filled now, with Harley winning earlier tonight, and there are only two spots left! Who wants it more?
The bell rings, and Velvet tries to outmuscle Aminata, which isn’t going to happen. The Queen rolls up Velvet, but she kicks out at two. Velvet tries an arm drag, but Aminata holds on and she slams Velvet to the mat. Aminata scores with a running knee strike to the face, but Velvet kicks out at two.
Aminata scores with a Michinoku Driver for another two. The Queen goes to headbutt Red, but Velvet falls to the mat, and Aminata shows her that royal pinky! Velvet fires back with an Exploder Suplex, off the ropes with the Scissor kick, but the Queen is out at two. That leads to another break.
COMMERCIALS!
Velvet has targeted the neck of the Queen as we return. Aminata smashes Velvet into the corner, but Red fires back with a bulldog for a two. Velvet screams like a banshee and slaps Aminata on the arm. Velvet jumps into the arms of Aminata, but Velvet escapes and tries to hit the ropes, but Aminata powers Velvet to the mat with a back throw suplex!
Both ladies get to their feet, and Aminata gains the advantage with lariats, a kick to the face in the corner, and a double stomp from the second rope, but despite all of that, Velvet still kicks out at two. Aminata goes to the top, but Velvet catches her and sneaks underneath and hits a corner Powerbomb! Velvet to the top rope, and she hits the Frog Splash to the back of Aminata, but the Queen kicks out at two.
Velvet rips the tape off the neck of Aminta, so the Queen smashes her with a forearm. Both ladies trade strikes and ducks, Velvet with a kick to the gut, but she misses the roundhouse kick, allowing Aminata to hit Off with Her Head, and the Queen moves on!
WINNER: Queen Aminata
TIME: 10:15
THOUGHTS: I’m kind of surprised that Red Velvet didn’t win this one, but I’m happy for the Queen getting the win here after being sidelined for so long. Queen for the TBS Title? This was a dandy of a match!
RATING: ***1/2
Renee is in the back with the Young Bucks. They start their promo, but we hear the sound of fighting, and we see Cope and Cage fighting with the Dogs down the staircase! The Champions take a moment to talk to the Young Bucks before going back to the fight. Cage and Cope put Finlay in a wheelchair and throw him into the wall. Connors uses the Hairdresser as a decoy so they can attack the Champions. They mock them and ask them if this is a lesson that they want to teach them. They do the five second pose over the Champions.
We get the graphic for that tag team title match at Forbidden Door. Excalibur tells us that the main event International Title match is coming up next!
COMMERCIALS!

Ricky throws his jacket at Takeshita at the bell and hits a Harley Race knee to the face, sending Konosuke to the floor. Sasuke Special from Ricochet and keeps the pressure on with a 450 Splash in the ring, but Takeshita kicks out at two.
Ricky with a chop in the corner, but Takeshita counters an Irish Whip from Ricky with a big boot and a flying lariat. Takeshita lines up Ricochet, but Ricky drop toeholds Takeshita in the corner and hits the Area Code Jones! He heads to the top and scores with an elbow drop, but again Takeshita kicks out at two. Ricky looking Vertigo, but Takeshita rolls him up for a two. Takeshita traps Ricky and hits the Tombstone into the Wheelbarrow Suplex. Ricky isn’t done yet, as he catches Takeshita with a kick to the face and he connects on the Vertigo! The pin, but Takeshita kicks out at 2.99999999999999!
Ricky grabs Takeshita by the hair and he talks that mad smack, so that earns him a slap. Ricky drops the knee pad, and he hits his own Overdrive Knee! Ricky to the top rope and he connects with the Shooting Star Press, but again Takeshita kicks out! Ricky can’t believe it, as he contemplates what to do next, as the fans chant THIS IS AWESOME! Ricky heads to the top again, but Takeshita wakes up in time and crotches his challenger. Takeshita joins him up top and hammers on his back.
Takeshita heads to the very top, AVALANCHE GERMAN, BUT RICKY LANDS ON HIS FEET!! Ricky misses the Spirit Gun, Takeshita with the elbow strike! Ricky is countered by a Powerbomb from Takeshita for a two. Takeshita lines up Ricky, but Paul Turner is pulled in the way. Ricky hits a headbutt and the Ricosault for a two. WINNER: Konosuke Takeshita (And Still!)
TIME: 13:50
THOUGHTS: Silently, in my head, I figured that this match had at least a four-star floor, and it beat that. These two guys killed it, much to the surprise of absolutely no one.
RATING: ****1/4
Takeshita takes his leave, and Mark Briscoe is here! He embraces Konosuke on the ramp and he hits the ring with a mic. NOW, Sunday Night, at Forbidden Door, it’s going to be steel cage warfare. There’s going to be 12 men, one cage, and me and my buddies, we’re ready to have some fun on PPV. Now, let me remind y’all, we have a bit of a reputation, if you will. We have bodies, if you will, going back to the recent Blood and Guts. He calls the Death Riders the toughest group in wrestling, but at the end, they stood victorous. And it was all about the thrill of the fight, the thrill of the battle.
But at Forbidden Door, the consequences are different. Because if his team wins that match, then he will get a World Title shot against the Scum of the Earth himself, MJF. Now, MJF, I never thought I would say this, but I agree with you. He agrees that MJF is nothing like Mark, and he is happy that he is nothing like MJF, because he is a soft, entitled, little baby, and Mark is a grown ass man! If he wants something, he will earn it. And he knows what MJF will say because he is a broken record, and that’s okay, because this is America, and you can say what you want. But the last time we faced off one-on-one in this ring, I beat your ass, and you know I can do it again. So, at Forbidden Door, I am walking in with my brothers, shoulder to shoulder, ready to die for this. And what do you have, Max? Oh, that’s right, the Don Callis Family. They have some talented guys, but they don’t give a damn about you. In fact, if you were to spontaneously combust, they wouldn’t piss on you to save you. We see Don Callis on the ramp, indicating that Mark is crazy, and of course it is a ploy, as MJF attacks Briscoe from behind.
Briscoe eventually turns the tables and looks for the Jay Driller, but Kyle Fletcher hits the ring to save him, and he hits a Release German to Briscoe. Here comes Takeshita, who salts Fletcher with an elbow. He looks for the Raging Fire, but here is Kazuchika Okada to save him. Okada with the Rainmaker, but here is Kyle O’Reilly, and he gets Okada in the ankle lock. Kevin Knight is here, and he hits a springboard flying clothesline. Darby Allin is here, and he hits the Scorpion Death Drop. He looks for the Coffin Drop to Knight, but Jake Doyle is here and he intercepts Allin and slams him to the mat. Roderick Strong is here, but he can’t take down Doyle alone, as Orange Cassidy enters with the Orange Punch into the Angle Slam from Strong. MJF is back and he kicks Cassidy in the oranges, leading to Briscoe returning and kicks MJF in the gut, but Andrade is here and he hits a lariat to Briscoe with his Phil Collins hat still on. He shoves MJF but picks up Briscoe so MJF can hit him with the Dynamite Ring, but Briscoe moves, and MJF punches Andrade! Briscoe spikes MJF with the Jay Driller, and the babyfaces stand tall to close out the show!
And with that, we are done!
