Reigning World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk recently revealed he refused to watch The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX despite Paul Heyman’s repeated requests.
It was at ‘Mania XXX where The Beast slayed The Deadman’s iconic rivalry. Paul Heyman, who was at ringside cheering on Lesnar that night, kept urging his other client, CM Punk, to watch that match. Punk, who had retired from pro wrestling by then, didn’t want anything to do with Brock, he admitted during a recent appearance on All The Smoke.
It was only after he realized that Lesnar was up against The Undertaker that he understood why Heyman was so insistent.
“I remember Paul Heyman calling me and being like, ‘You need to watch Brock’s [WrestleMania XXX] match,’ and I was like, ‘I’m not watching Brock’s match; I don’t give a s**t,’
“I was like, ‘Wait, who’s he wrestling?’ ‘He’s wrestling The Undertaker.’ And I went ‘Oh, okay.’ I didn’t watch it, but I understood why he wanted me to.”
Punk said that he had stopped watching wrestling after his retirement in 2014 and that he only ordered the following year’s ‘Mania, i.e., WrestleMania 31, as his wife, AJ Lee, was performing on it.
“I remember, I didn’t watch anything until that next WrestleMania, and I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to order it, because I’m going to watch my wife,'” he revealed. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
Meanwhile, CM Punk is set for a huge match tonight, as he defends his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Night Two.
