Backstage Update on Potential WWE TV Return Date For CM Punk

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has been away from weekly television since the RAW after WrestleMania 42.

Amid speculations about his return status, Dave Meltzer reported earlier this month via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Best in the World would be a SmackDown Superstar once he returns to TV, with a program with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the works.

In this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), Meltzer reported that while CM Punk would be a SmackDown Superstar moving forward, the former WWE World Champion has been pushing “very hard” for his return to take place on the July 6 episode of Monday Night RAW, which is set to take place at Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Punk lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns in an epic Night Two main event of WrestleMania 42. On the subsequent episode of Monday Night RAW, he had a tense confrontation with Cody Rhodes, during which the two teased a showdown for the Undisputed WWE Title in the future.
