WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes joined The Ariel Helwani Show this week ahead of WWE Night of Champions. During the conversation, Rhodes was asked about the controversial topic of the Netflix docuseries, WWE: Unreal. Rhodes admitted that he’s a fan of the show, saying that there’s still plenty of secrets fans don’t know after watching the series. Below are some highlights:
Cody Rhodes on Why He Likes WWE: Unreal
“I am. I am a fan of Unreal. I actually, this is going to sound silly. I don’t think a lot of times when it comes to behind-the-scenes documentaries, but behind-the-scenes current stuff, I have difficulty watching it. One thing that I’ve revealed, so it’s no secret anymore, I really have a difficulty watching Hollywood’s take on pro wrestling. I lied through my teeth about seeing The Wrestler. In The Iron Claw, I remember thinking, ‘Well, if Kevin Von Erich’s behind it, then are are with it, then it’s probably in good hands.’ I have a difficulty seeing that because I grew up in it, and it’s not always accurate enough for me, per se, but Unreal, I think they’ve done an incredible job.
“Yes, they’re showing things behind the scenes, but they’re also showing you the people behind the scenes. And the number one thing that gets people interested, that’s not your athleticism in the ring, is who you are as a person. The very first scene of Unreal, the very first scene when I finally sat down and watched it, I was shocked to see is my daughter and I putting an ornament on a Christmas tree that I have a home movie, and and and b that’s who I am. That’s why I do it,t particularly now my two children is why I do this at all. So I like that it connects you with who the people are, and I send a message this is rather recently so forgive me. I sent a message to everybody who was involved with Unreal, particularly fitting, and just said congratulations because I think it’s a natural evolution of what we do.”
On How WWE: Unreal Isn’t Giving All the Secrets Away
“And for those who say we’re giving everything away and for those who say everything’s already been given away, it’s not — That’s not the truth. There’s still plenty you don’t know, and there’s plenty you don’t want to know. That’s the challenge for me as a modern performer and competitor to show you something while not showing you something else. It’s magic 101, you know.”
WWE: Unreal Season 3 debuts with new episodes on July 21 on Netflix. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes is scheduled for action this weekend at WWE Night of Champions 2026. He defends his WWE Undisputed Championship against Sami Zayn and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match.
WWE Night of Champions takes place on Saturday, June 27. The premium live event is being held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will be broadcast live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally. Also, 411 will provide live coverage of the PLE.
