Csonka’s Lucha Underground Review 9.20.17 (The Rise of The Announcer)

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Dante Fox defeated Texano @ 5:50 via pin [**½]
– Marty the Moth & Mariposa defeated Melissa Santos & Fenix @ 8:43 via pin [**½]
Gift of The Gods Title Match: Pentagon & Son of Havoc @ 6:50 via pin [***]

– Follow all of my reviews at this link.

– We see highlights of how the participants got to tonight’s Gift of The Gods title match, the Texano/Famous B angle as well as the build to Marty the Moth & Mariposa vs. Melissa Santos & Fenix.

– We see Melissa Santos & Fenix training. Fenix is enjoying pinning her repeatedly. He enjoyed her mounting him even more. She asks to see him without his mask, but he says that it is everything to him and if it’s taken from him, he loses everything. She promises that he won’t lose her and lays a big old kiss on him.

– Since Melissa is wrestling, Famous B is the ring announcer.

Dante Fox vs. Texano: Fox attacks right away, beating Texano down. Fox uses his speed advantage, teases a dive and then hits a kick and wipes out Texano on the floor. Back in and Fox hits a swanton for 2. Killshot is watching from in the crowd. They trade strikes, and Texano hits a big lariat and a sliding lariat for 2. Texano fires up with more clotheslines, and an enziguri for 2. Fox fires back with a kick and hits a springboard cutter and a 450 for a near fall. Texano hits a wheelbarrow slam, covering for 2. Fox counters out of the powerbomb, and hits the crucifix for 2. Texano blocks the fox catcher, hits a back breaker, covering for 2. Famous B announces Texano as the winner and comes in the ring to celebrate. Fox then rolls up Texano for the win. Dante Fox defeated Texano @ 5:50 via pin [**½] That was really fun and going along well until the horrible finish. That’s been a major issue in the second half of season three. Sure it sets up a match for next week, but it really hurt the match for me.

– Dario stops Texano from killing famous B, and makes a match for next week, joking that it’s a handicap match. If Famous B wins, Dario will give Famous B Texano’s contract. Commentary also confirmed Killshot vs. Fox for one of the Ultima Lucha shows.

– Dario meets with Son of Havoc, he says when he wins the gift of the gods, he’s joining the title match at the ultima lucha finale. Pentagon arrives and says that he will break everyone’s arms tonight and win the gift of the gods title. Dario makes a call to get some extra EMTs for the main event.

Marty the Moth & Mariposa vs. Melissa Santos & Fenix: Fenix and Mariposa in to begin. Fenix immediately picks up the pace; Mariposa looks to work the arm and takes Fenix down. They trade strikes, and Mariposa slams Fenix and hits the elbow drop for 2. Fenix with the boot, and takes her out with a kick. Marty in now and takes control. Fenix again picks up the pace, hits an arm drag and stuns Marty off the ropes and follows with kicks. The back handspring cutter connects and Fenix covers for 2. Marty is sent to the floor and follows with a great step up dive. Back in and Fenix fights off Mariposa, and Santos wants in but Marty attacks Fenix, taking him to his corner. He and Mariposa take the heat, but Fenix fights back and hits a kick. Santos gets in a high kick on Marty and then walks the ropes with Fenix’s help and hits a seated senton. She then works over Mariposa, and trips Mariposa into Marty’s crotch. The assisted leg drop gets 2. Santos holds Marty down, but Mariposa crotches Fenix as he goes up top. Marty grabs her, Mariposa ties Fenix to the ropes as Santos slaps away at Marty and Marty then chases her to the floor. She tries to help Fenix, but is left to fight 2 on 1. Mariposa & Marty hit a double team pedigree to pickup the win. Marty the Moth & Mariposa defeated Melissa Santos & Fenix @ 8:43 via pin [**½] The match was solid, but it was really more about the angle and adding heat to Fenix vs. Marty. Marty beat his woman while he was forced to watch, which was a strong visual. Overall a good segment.

– Post match, Fenix frees himself and makes the save, running off Marty & Mariposa.

– More Ultima Lucha Tres matches announced…

* Steel Cage Match: Dragon Azteca Jr. vs. The Monster Matanza Cueto
* Catrina vs. Ivelisse
* Luchas de Apuestas (Hair vs. Mask Match: Fenix vs. Marty The Moth Martinez
* Last Luchadora Standing Match: Taya vs. Sexy Star

* Contract Match:Texano vs. Famous B
* Gauntlet Match: Cage vs. Mil Muertes vs. Jeremiah Crane

* Lucha Underground Title Match: Champion Johnny Mundo vs. Prince Puma

Gift of The Gods Title Match: Paul London vs. Saltador vs. Mala Suerte vs. Drago vs. Cortez Castro vs. Pentagon vs. Son of Havoc: Everyone brawls at the bell, Pentagon battles with Saltador, and then Drago works over Castro as we work through the various pairings. Havoc attacks Drago, until Pentagon cuts him off with a superkick. London hits a dive; Suerte attacks Pentagon and gets a crucifix for 2. Pentagon cuts him off an hits the Penta driver. Drago returns, works over Pentagon but Castro is in, breaks it up and hits a powerbomb for 2. Saltador in to cut him off, but Havoc is back and hits the double stomp for 2. London in, hits a spin kick on Havoc, covering for 2. Drago returns, he and Castro work back and forth but Suerte is in, and we get some dives as it completely breaks down. Havoc hits London with the cutter for 2. Pentagon returns, the Rabbit tribe attacks him but he fights them off and starts slamming them into each other. Package piledriver on Saltador. One for London, Havoc covers Suerte as Pentagon covers London and we have a double pin… Pentagon & Son of Havoc @ 6:50 via pin [***] This was a good and fun match, the finish works because Pentagon & Son of Havoc are two of the most over guys on the roster and I think are more than deserving of a feature match at Ultima Lucha Tres.

– Dario then books Pentagon & Son of Havoc in a ladder match to determine the Gift of The Gods champion.

– Dario meets with the replacement for Delgado in a limo. He has the gauntlet, and says that Crane or Muertes could be a good host for out friend. Dario now books cage vs. Crane vs. Muertes and the winner gets the gauntlet. The mystery man in the limo smokes a cigar and seemingly approves.

ULTIMA LUCHA TRES BEGINS NEXT WEEK, AND I WILL BE DOING LIVE COVERAGE!

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good
The 411
This week’s Lucha Underground featured some good and fun wrestling, and more importantly locked in a loaded four-weeks of Ultima Lucha Tres action (which was the real strength of the show). If this is going to be the end of Lucha Underground, they look to be going out with a bang.
