Csonka’s WWE 205 Live Review 8.01.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Brian Kendrick defeated Jack Gallagher @ 1:27 via DQ [NR]
– Tony Nese defeated Gran Metalik @ 6:31 via pin [***]
– #1 Contender’s Match: Akira Tozawa defeated Ariya Daivari @ 11:17 via pin [***]

– We open with Shinsuke Nakamura still celebrating his big win over John Cena. But as he celebrates, Baron Corbin attacks him and works him over until John Cena makes the save. Corbin drops Cena with a nasty right, clears off the commentary table and pulls the steps over. Cena battles back and hits an AA on Corbin through the table. Possible Summerslam match? Corbin faces Cena, loses, and then cashes in on Nakamura after he beats Jinder for the title? Cena again raises Nakamura’s hand and Nakamura’s music plays again.

– We get a video history on the Daivari vs. Tozawa feud.

– Brian Kendrick is out to run down Jack Gallagher, again calling him a clown. Tonight he ends things and rids 205 Live of Gallagher. He’ll send him back to the circus.

Jack Gallagher vs. Brian Kendrick: Gallagher attacks right away, just beating the shit out of Kendrick in the corner. he starts whipping Kendrick around the ring, and also lays in uppercuts. Gallagher hits the head butt and lays the boots to Kendrick in the ropes and he gets disqualified for kicking too much ass. Gallagher slams Kendrick into the LED board, but as he gets the umbrella, Kendrick escapes through the crowd. Brian Kendrick defeated Jack Gallagher @ 1:27 via DQ [NR] I actually liked this as a device to continue the feud. It allowed Gallagher to show his serious and more bad ass side, but also allowed the douchey heel to win without beating the babyface.

– Rich Swann and Mustafa Ali play WWE 2K, and TJP interrupts and they discuss their friendly competition, but Swann thinks that TJP is obsessed with being better than he is. Swann proposes a match for next week, but first they will play WWE 2k.

– Tony Nese makes his way to the ring and says he is what a premiere athlete looks like. It was because of him that his team won the main event last week, he has the body of a winner. Metalik doesn’t look like a winner, and that’s why he’ s all covered up, he looks just like the fans. Metalik cuts a pre-taped promo with subtitles. I’m completely lying here, but I think he’s fighting for Cleveland’s honor.

Gran Metalik vs. Tony Nese: Big week for Metalik, working both Main event and 205 Live. Nese poses and stalls a bit, but Metalik picks up the pace and takes control and poses at Nese. Nese was not impressed, Metalik hits a dropkick and sends Nese to the floor. Nese back in before he could dive, but Metalik sends him to the floor and hits a fucking beautiful moonsault to the floor, wiping out Nese.

Back in the ring and Nese cuts off Metalik with a gut buster. Nese works knee strikes and follows with a flapjack, covering for 2. Nese ground Metalik, applying the body scissors. Metalik fights to his feet, but Nese slams him to the corner and sets Metalik up top. Nese poses, allowing Metalik to fire back and then Metalik to the pot and hits a high cross, but I delayed to cover as he holds onto his ribs after the work of Nese has taken a toll on him. Metalik hits the ropewalk dropkick, heads back up top and hits the ropewalk elbow drop, covering for 2. Metalik escapes the powerslam, sent to the corner and Nese trips him up and follows with the running knee strike for the win. Tony Nese defeated Gran Metalik @ 6:31 via pin [***] Good outing overall, they worked well together and made the most of their time, had a solid layout and Metalik sold Nese’s work well. I just wish they had a bit more time to create a better closing stretch.

– Neville is interviewed, he wants to end Tozawa and Titus Worldwide, but Tozawa has remained a thorn in his side. As for Daivari, he didn’t even know he existed until he disrespected him last week. He doesn’t give a fuck who wins, whoever wins, will lose and be humiliated as they kneel to their king.

– Daivari talks about another great Iranian wrestler, who he plans to honor at Summerslam. He fights for the pride of his nation, and will win the cruiserweight title for them.

#1 Contender’s Match: Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari: Tozawa is all taped up still, and requested that Titus not come to the ring tonight. That’s pretty easy as Titus doesn’t work Tuesdays. Tozawa takes early control, avoiding the attacks of Daivari, and laying in chops. Tozawa hit the running kick and senton, covering for 2. Daivari rolls to the floor, but then rushes back in and cuts off the dive attempt by Tozawa. Daivari then stomps away at the shoulder. Tozawa fires up, hitting strikes and a RANA. Daivari then pulls him to the floor and posts him shoulder first. Daivari takes Tozawa up the ramp, beats on him and rushes back to the ring for a countout tease. Back in and Daivari works the heat, continuing to ground Tozawa and work the shoulder. Neville watches on from backstage as Daivari keeps working the arm. It’s perfectly solid and sound work, but at the same time it’s also a bit bland. Tozawa looks to fight back, but Daivari cuts him off with a cobra clutch. Daivari takes him to the ground with the hold in a crossface like position. More stomping from Daivari after he hits divorce court, and he again slams Tozawa to the mat shoulder first. Daivari up top and misses the frog splash, and Tozawa fires up with kicks, hits the snap Saito suplex and the running kick and cover gets 2. Tozawa up top, but Daivari trips him off the ropes and hits the frog splash for 2. There was no reaction at all for that near fall. Tozawa counters the hammerlock rainmaker and kicks Daivari to the apron. He send shim to the floor, hits the suicide dive and rolls Daivari back in, hits the senton and picks up the win. Akira Tozawa defeated Ariya Daivari @ 11:17 via pin [***] Despite a dead crowd, these two worked really hard and ended up putting in a good match, In front of a hot crowd or even a crowd that a single, solitary fuck, this could have been really good. But it had no atmosphere, especially down the stretch.

– Neville watches on from backstage, he is not impressed.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

Tonight’s show was a really solid effort, continuing Swann vs. TJP & Gallagher vs. Kendrick and also setting the main event for Summerslam, while giving us two good matches. They desperately need to do something about the show’s atmosphere, because these guys are busting their asses and getting less of a reaction than they’d get working a small indie.
