Dave Meltzer Says There’s ‘No Denying Penta’ Following Match With Roman Reigns

Dave Meltzer says that WWE officials are very pleased with Penta’s work against Roman Reigns on WWE Raw earlier this month. Penta battled Reigns on the September 14th episode in Mexico City, a match that drew one of the best viewership numbers on Netflix for 2026.

Meltzer spoke about the match on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He noted (per Wrestling Inc) that “I have heard from people in the company when [this match happened], and you know, there’s no denying Penta.”

Meltzter also weighed in on the show’s viewership numbers, stating:

“It drew the second-biggest number of the year, against a Monday Night Football game that had 23.2 million viewers, so realistically, if you take away that Monday Night Football game, it probably beats the Raw After WrestleMania; almost certainly, actually.”

It should be mentioned that Meltzer is slightly off. The episode drew 3.1 million views, which tied it for the third-highest viewership of the year with the February 2nd episode. The second-highest viewership went to the January 5th episode, which brought in 3.2 million. The most viewed episode, as he said, was the post-WrestleMania episode on April 20th which had 3.3 million viewers.

Meltzer’s comments about Penta being viewed differently in WWE align with a report from last week, in which sources indicated that creative plans may have changed for the luchador including a potential rematch with Reigns down the line and his being considered a “heavy favorite” to win the men’s Money in the Bank match.
