During last Tuesday’s WWE NXT, NXT Tag Team Champions The Hardys appeared in a video from the Hardy Compound, declaring that they’d be defending the titles against former champions, DarkState, this weekend at NXT Halloween Havoc in a “Broken Rules” Match. Does this mean we’re getting a cinematic “Final Deletion” style matchup at the premium live event? According to Dave Meltzer on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, that isn’t the case.

Although Bryan Alvarez was hoping for a cinematic match, Meltzer chimed in, “No, Matt Hardy Matt Hardy said that it’s going to be a regular match.” He continued, “They may do a — they’re going to be in the arena because they want to make sure the fans know because they don’t have a ton of tickets.”

Meltzer explained that WWE wants to make sure the fans know the match is taking place at the arena to sell as many tickets as possible. He added, “It’s a small building, they’ll probably pack it, but they wanted to make sure that everybody knew that The Hardys were going to be wrestling there.”

The Hardys Face Off Against DarkState in Broken Rules at NXT Halloween Havoc

During NXT, Matt Hardy said the Broken Rules Match is a match where anything is possible and anything goes, indicating that it will at least be an Anything Goes type of match. They also sentenced DarkState to “Deletion!”

The Hardys previously defeated DarkState to capture the NXT Tag Team Titles earlier this month at the NXT vs. TNA Showdown special. The Hardys later defended both the NXT and TNA World Tag Team Titles against Team 3D (aka The Dudley Boyz) in One Last Table Match at TNA Bound for Glory 2025.

WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2025, featuring The Hardys vs. DarkState for the NXT Tag Team Titles in a Broken Rules Match, takes place on Saturday, October 25. The premium live event will be held at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott, Arizona. It will be broadcast live on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
