According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lashley was actually under Impact contract, for a good amount of money, through May. But once it was clear that he wasn’t staying past that point, he asked to be released early, and the company granted his release. The feeling is that Lashley expecting a good deal elsewhere, whether that be WWE or New Japan, and was willing to give up the last three months of his contract to explore that.
