Dominik Mysterio Credits Eddie Guerrero for Influencing His Heel Turn and Current WWE Run

Dominik Mysterio has explained how his current heel persona is intentionally rooted in the late Eddie Guerrero’s legacy, shaping many elements of his character since his heel turn in 2022. The comparisons between Dominik and Guerrero have followed him for years due to their connection in the 2005 storyline involving his custody. Instead of avoiding those, Dom has chosen to incorporate Eddie’s signature style into his on-screen work, framing it as a tribute to the WWE Hall of Famer.

In a recent WWE interview, Dominik said his early years in the company left him defined only as Rey Mysterio’s son. He felt that version of his 2020 character lacked depth and direction. According to him, the heel turn “felt right instantaneously,” giving him a chance to build something more layered. He credited Eddie Guerrero for providing a blueprint for that transformation.

“My character was being Rey Mysterio’s son. I’m sure people were just sick of it. There was nothing interesting about that. I was just there. Instantaneously it (turning heel) just felt right. Almost like this is where I needed to be the whole time.

Dominik said he grew up watching Eddie so often that many of Guerrero’s mannerisms became a natural part of his own elements when he turned heel in 2022. He pointed to his dynamic with Rhea Ripley as an example, noting that it mirrors Eddie’s work with Chyna. He also mentioned that the “Lie, Cheat, Steal” approach appears in his matches because it fits the type of character he currently portrays. Mysterio added that Eddie “planted that seed” years ago without knowing how it would influence the future.

“[Points to his mustache and hair] This is all Eddie. I watched him so much that it organically became a thing, even with the Rhea stuff, Eddie, and Chyna. Now, the Lie, Cheat, Steal stuff that I am currently doing… Without Eddie even knowing he planted that seed, he’s just always been there the whole time.”
