Former WWE writer Chris Dunn is a big fan of Road Dogg, saying that the former head Smackdown writer has the best mind in wrestling. Road Dogg exited WWE in March, where he had been serving as the co-head writer for Smackdown. He had previously served in that role back in 2019, and had been on the creative team for a number of years before that.

Dunn spoke about Road Dogg during his appearance on the Public Enemies Podcast. He defended Road Dogg, who he worked with during his tenure on the writing team, and talked about how good he was at advocating for talent. He also shared a story about how Vince McMahon ribbed Road Dogg over his propensity for pushing for stars. You can see the highlights below:

On Road Dogg’s Work On WWE Creative:

“Yeah, I’ve said on the show before. I will say this till it all comes home, and I know he has taken a lot of s**t: Road Dog is the best mind in wrestling. I think he combines all the good things that Vince had and all the good things that Hunter had, and meet in the middle.”

On Road Dogg Advocating For Talent:

“He’s also really great for advocating for talent, and seeing the talent that I think true fans seem and advocates for them. Like, you see Chelsea Green, yeah he’s a massive advocate of hers and still is even though he’s not there. You know, I know New Day’s in the news. A year before Kofi won the title, he wanted to launch Smackdown with Big E as the champion. Then when Kofi started having the momentum, he was the one who really pushed to you know to start to get Vince thinking that way.”

On Vince McMahon Ribbing Road Dogg:

“I’ll tell you a story that I love. He would take — and he’s the kind of person who would sell for the talent he believes in. And I think, though he took — it was always so funny, he would take so much s**t from the internet, but he was usually advocating for the things that true fans wanted. And he would sell, so like there was a Survivor series where he was running Smackdown. He was like — I think he was at home for a creative meeting and calling into it. And to f**k with Road Dog, Vince in a meeting, decided Smackdown was going to lose every match on Survivor Series. And he would listen in and he knew like, Road Dogg would be like, ‘Guys, like, they have to go over, I guess that’s another one for Raw.’

“And then like we got to, I think the New Day match came up, when New Day was on Smackdown. So it was like, ‘[sigh] We can’t have New Day lose. Let’s put them on kickoff.’ So it would be defined as New Day would win, but it wouldn’t count as a win for Smackdown because it was on the Kickoff Show. All to rib Road Dogg.”
