AAA broadcaster and creative team member, and former WWE and WCW wrestler, Konnan is said to be facing serious health issues at the moment, as he’s currently hospitalized in San Diego, California, according to multiple news outlets in Mexico (h/t WrestlingNews.co). Mexican sports outlet RECORD initially reported that Konnan (nee Carlos Santiago Espada) was hospitalized this week, and he underwent a leg amputation. It’s also said he’s in “delicate health” at the moment, and he may have to have his other leg amputated.
There were initially conflicting reports regarding Konnan’s health status, as an initial social media post by user Kung Fu Jr. suggested that Konnan may have died. It was later confirmed that Konnan is alive, but in critical condition. RECORD cited its report by columnist @elplanchitas, who reported, “I can confirm that Carlos Santiago Espada (62 years old) had a leg amputated. For some time now, the Triple A star has been dealing with health problems that have left him in a delicate state in San Diego, United States.”
MVS Noticias also reports that Konnan underwent an amputation of one of his lower limbs, and there’s still a risk that his other leg might be amputated due to his “deteriorating physical condition” (Note: translated from Spanish by Google Translate), as his health issues have reportedly worsened over the years. El Heraldo de México also reports that Konnan is alive but in ailing physical condition at the moment.
F4WOnline.com notes that the reports on Konnan have not yet been independently confirmed, and no official statements regarding Konnan’s health have been released.
The wrestler and former WCW United States Champion has faced a litany of health issues over the years, which have been well documented. On behalf of 411, we send our best wishes to Konnan and his family.
